Swift Justice: Police Nab SBI Robbery Suspects, Recover Gold Worth ₹1.84 Crore
On Thursday, the Warangal police made a significant breakthrough in the State Bank of India (SBI) robbery at Rayaparthy.
Three individuals were arrested in connection with the heist, and the police recovered 2.520 kg of gold ornaments worth Rs 1.84 crore.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Ambar Kishore Jha confirmed that the robbers had stolen a total of 19 kg of gold worth approximately Rs 13.61 crore, as well as a significant amount of cash, during the robbery on November 18.
Detailed Planning by the Robbery Gang
The police investigation revealed that the heist was meticulously planned by two gangs, one based in Uttar Pradesh and the other in Maharashtra.
Using Google Maps, the robbers studied the location of the Rayaparthy SBI branch and sketched a map of the premises. They planned to execute the robbery on November 19, but their operation took place a day earlier.
The robbers had thoroughly surveyed the bank, and after successfully carrying out the heist, they escaped in a rented car.
The gang split into three groups, with some heading back to their native places while others went to Hyderabad.
Despite the police’s initial difficulties in solving the case, their efforts paid off within 15 days, leading to the arrests of Arshad Ansari, Shakir Khan alias Boli Khan, and Himanshu Bigam Chand. All three are residents of Budan, Uttar Pradesh.
Robbery Details: How the Heist Was Executed
CP Ambar Kishore Jha provided an in-depth description of how the gang carried out the robbery. The criminals reached the Rayaparthy branch of SBI in the evening of November 18.
They used a gas cutter to break through the iron grill of the bank and entered the building. Two members of the gang remained outside as lookouts. The robbers deactivated the bank’s security alarm system and cut the CCTV camera wires to avoid being detected.
They then used gas cutters to break open three lockers in the bank’s strongroom and stole 19 kg of gold ornaments.
The gang also took the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) of the CCTV system to eliminate any potential evidence. The CP explained that the bank did not have a security guard, which made it easier for the robbers to execute their plan without interference.
Police Efforts and Recovery of Stolen Goods
The investigation involved more than ten special teams, including officials from West Zone, Narsampet, and City Crime Station.
Under the leadership of DCP Rajamahendra Nayak, the teams tracked the movement of the suspects across multiple states.
The police were able to trace the three arrested individuals and recover the stolen gold ornaments. Additionally, a car and Rs 10,000 in cash were seized from the suspects.
The police have not yet apprehended the remaining members of the gang. The absconding robbers include Md Nawab Hasan, Akshay Gajanan Ambor, Sagar Bhaskar Gour, and Sajid Khan.
CP Jha stated that the police are actively working to track down the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.
Gang’s Use of Google Maps and Preparation for the Robbery
It was revealed that the mastermind behind the heist, Md Nawab Hasan, had arrived in the state a few days prior to the robbery.
He conducted reconnaissance on several banks in the region, specifically targeting those with inadequate security measures. The gang used Google Maps to identify the SBI branch at Rayaparthy as the ideal location for the robbery.
On the night of the heist, the robbers traveled from Hyderabad to the outskirts of Rayaparthy. They then accessed the bank’s premises under the cover of darkness.
After carrying out the robbery, they returned to their rented accommodation in Hyderabad, where they stayed briefly before dispersing to their respective homes in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Recommendations for Bank Security
CP Ambar Kishore Jha emphasized the importance of upgrading bank security systems to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
He recommended that banks install high-end alarm systems and hire security guards, particularly in rural or remote branches. Such measures could help deter potential robbers and improve the safety of bank staff and customers.
The Ongoing Search for Absconding Robbers
The police continue to search for the remaining gang members involved in the robbery.
The investigation has been challenging due to the intricate planning and execution of the heist, but the police remain committed to apprehending all involved parties.
CP Jha assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the absconding robbers and recover the remaining stolen goods.
This case marks one of the largest heists in recent times in Telangana, and the police are determined to bring all the culprits to justice.
