The tribute resonated with the Akkineni family and the Telugu cinema community as they celebrated ANR’s centenary year.
ANR’s son Nagarjuna, grandson Naga Chaitanya, and actor-wife Sobhita Dhulipala expressed heartfelt gratitude to PM Modi for his acknowledgment of the cinematic icon’s contributions.

On December 29, PM Modi dedicated a segment of “Mann Ki Baat” to icons of Indian cinema, including Raj Kapoor, Mohammad Rafi, Tapan Sinha, and Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
He stated:
“Raj Kapoor ji introduced the world to India’s soft power through films. Mohammad Rafi Sahab’s magical voice continues to captivate the younger generation even today. Akkineni Nageswara Rao Garu elevated Telugu cinema, showcasing Indian traditions and values. Tapan Sinha ji’s films offered new societal perspectives while promoting social consciousness and national unity.”
Acknowledging their influence, PM Modi emphasized how these stalwarts inspired the film industry and contributed to India’s cultural heritage.

Actor Nagarjuna shared a video clip of the tribute, thanking the Prime Minister for recognizing his father’s achievements during his centenary celebrations. He wrote:

Akkineni Nageswara Rao: A Legacy in Telugu Cinema
Popularly known as ANR, Akkineni Nageswara Rao was a pioneering figure in Telugu cinema.
His illustrious career spanned seven decades, during which he starred in iconic films such as Tenali Ramakrishna, Vipra Narayanan, and Bhakta Tukaram.
Renowned for his ability to portray Indian traditions and values, ANR elevated Telugu cinema on a national and global stage.
In 2011, ANR received the Padma Vibhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honors.
His final film, Manam, saw him act alongside Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Akhil Akkineni, and Amala Akkineni, under the direction of Vikram Kumar.

During his Mann Ki Baat address, PM Modi highlighted the broader role of the film and entertainment industry, noting its contribution to India’s economy and global reputation.
He said:
