Veer Pahariya Apologizes to Comedian Pranit More After Assault Incident
Comedian Pranit More was assaulted by a group of 10-12 men following his performance at a comedy club in Solapur.
The attack came after he included jokes about Bollywood actor Veer Pahariya in his set. The incident has sparked concerns about freedom of speech and artist safety in India.
Pranit’s team released a statement detailing the assault. According to the statement, the comedian was interacting with fans after his show when a group of men approached him.
They proceeded to physically attack him, punching and kicking him while warning him not to make jokes about Veer. One attacker was quoted as saying, “Agle baar Veer Pahariya baba pe joke maarke dikha!” (Next time joke about Veer Pahariya and see what happens).
Lack of Police Support and CCTV Footage
Pranit’s team also revealed that they were denied access to CCTV footage of the incident and received no help from the local police.
They have since taken to social media to seek assistance from Mumbai Police, urging authorities to take immediate action.
Veer Pahariya Responds with Public Apology
Upon learning about the incident, Veer Pahariya took to Instagram to express his shock and sadness. In his statement, he wrote:
“I am truly shocked and saddened by what happened to Comedian Pranit More. I want to make it clear – I had no involvement in this, and I strongly condemn any form of violence. As someone who has always taken trolling in stride, laughed along with it, and shown love even to my critics, I would never encourage or support harm towards anyone, let alone someone from the same creative fraternity.”
He further extended his apologies, stating, “To Pranit and his fans—I am deeply sorry that this happened. No one deserves this. I will personally ensure that whoever was responsible is held accountable. My sincerest apologies again.”
Attack Linked to Bollywood Debut in Sky Force
The attack is believed to have been carried out in retaliation for jokes about Veer Pahariya, who recently made his Bollywood debut in Sky Force.
The film, which released on January 24, is a patriotic action drama based on real-life heroics. Veer plays Squadron Leader Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya, a Mahavir Chakra recipient.
Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, Sky Force recounts India’s retaliatory strike on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase during the 1965 Indo-Pakistani air war.
The film also stars Akshay Kumar, Nimrat Kaur, and Sara Ali Khan and is produced by Maddock Films.
Industry Reactions and Social Media Uproar
Many artists and comedians have come forward to support Pranit, condemning the attack and questioning the safety of performers in India.
Pranit’s team released another statement expressing concern over rising instances of violence against comedians. “If a comedian can be physically assaulted for making a joke, what does that say about our basic rights and safety? As Maharashtrian artists, we never imagined that in his own state, he would face such violence just for doing his job.”
The debate surrounding freedom of speech in comedy has intensified following this incident, with fans and celebrities urging stricter action against those who threaten artistic expression.
Calls for Action and Investigation
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack. It remains unclear if any arrests have been made.
However, pressure from the entertainment industry and the public continues to mount on law enforcement to take swift action against the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, Veer Pahariya’s statement distancing himself from the attack and condemning violence has been received positively. Whether further action will be taken against those responsible remains to be seen.
The assault on Pranit More has reignited discussions on artistic freedom, safety, and accountability. While Veer Pahariya has apologized and denounced the attack, the larger issue remains unresolved.
Comedians and performers across India are calling for a stronger response from authorities to ensure that such incidents do not become a recurring threat in the industry.
