Yamuna Aarti at Vasudev Ghat
As part of the ceremonial proceedings, Rekha Gupta, along with her ministers and BJP leaders, attended the Yamuna Aarti at Vasudev Ghat.
She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to cleaning the Yamuna River, stating, “Today, during the aarti of Maa Yamuna, we remembered our resolution to clean the river. We will use the needed resources, and it will be our priority.”
BJP’s Electoral Victory
The BJP’s landslide victory in the Delhi assembly elections saw the party secure 48 out of 70 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was reduced to 22 seats, a significant drop from their previous 62-seat majority in 2020.
The shift in power came amid corruption allegations against AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, many of whom faced legal issues and jail time.
Representation in the New Cabinet
The newly formed cabinet reflects diverse representation from various communities that contributed to BJP’s massive electoral success:
- Manjinder Singh Sirsa represents the Sikh community, which played a crucial role in the BJP’s victory.
- Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh are representatives of the Purvanchali community.
- Parvesh Verma is BJP’s Jat face and was a strong contender for the Chief Minister’s post.
- Ashish Sood, a first-time MLA from Janakpuri, is a prominent Punjabi leader.
Promises and Governance Priorities
Rekha Gupta announced that the first ₹2,500 monthly installment under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana would be credited to women’s bank accounts by March 8.
The government also aims to improve infrastructure, healthcare, education, and environmental policies.
National and International Recognition
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and several other national leaders attended the event.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar congratulated Gupta, expressing confidence that her government would bring a new era of governance under Modi’s leadership.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also extended his best wishes, stating, “A new era is beginning in Delhi… It is the most polluted city in the world, but now we will have cleaner air and better health. The Yamuna River will also be purified.”
Rekha Gupta’s swearing-in marks a significant political shift in Delhi. As she embarks on her tenure, all eyes will be on how her government delivers on its promises, particularly in infrastructure, governance, and environmental reform.
With BJP’s strong mandate and extensive support, her leadership is set to shape the future of Delhi’s development.
