BJP Leader Surendra Jawahar Shot Dead in Haryana Over Land Dispute

BJP Leader Surendra Jawahar Shot Dead in Haryana Over Land Dispute

A local BJP leader was fatally shot on Friday night in Haryana’s Sonipat district due to a property dispute, police reported.

Surendra Jawahar, the BJP Mundlana Mandal president, was shot around 9:30 pm in Jawahar village by a neighbour over a long-standing disagreement concerning a piece of land.

The accused fired three bullets at Jawahar, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Dispute Over Land Purchase Turned Deadly

According to authorities, the conflict stemmed from a plot of land that Jawahar had purchased in the name of the accused’s aunt.

The accused had previously warned Jawahar not to step onto the land. When Jawahar attempted to clear the land on Friday night, the situation escalated violently.

CCTV footage captured the shocking moments leading up to the murder. The video shows Jawahar running into a shop with the assailant in pursuit. Jawahar can be heard shouting, “Mujhe maar diya (He killed me)” before the attacker grabs him and shoots him point-blank.

Jawahar died on the spot from his injuries. His uncle, Sultan Singh, witnessed the crime and confirmed that the land dispute had been ongoing for a while.

Long-Standing Property Conflict

Sultan Singh stated that the dispute involved three bighas of land, which had been tied up in legal proceedings. Jawahar had reportedly paid Rs 5 lakh to the accused, identified as Monu, for the land.

However, Monu resisted completing the transfer in Jawahar’s name, leading to ongoing tension.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rishi Kant from Gohana police station confirmed that Monu was responsible for the shooting. “Yesterday, we received information that a bullet had been fired in Jawahar village, and Surendra Jawahar was shot and killed. The dispute was over land that Jawahar had purchased from Monu’s uncle and aunt,” ACP Rishi Kant stated.

Three police teams were formed to apprehend Monu, and he was arrested within hours of the incident.

Chilling Details Captured on CCTV

The CCTV footage reveals Monu pushing Jawahar into a shop and pointing a gun at his head.

Jawahar is heard shouting “Maar diya maar diya (He’s killed me)” as two to three people attempt to intervene. Despite their efforts, Monu fired the shots and fled the scene.

Police confirmed that Monu fired at least two bullets at Jawahar. A senior officer stated, “The BJP leader’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and the accused is currently being questioned.”

Investigation Underway

Preliminary investigations indicate that the root cause of the conflict was the property deal. Monu had issued multiple warnings to Jawahar to stay away from the land.

Jawahar’s decision to visit the land on Friday night appears to have triggered the fatal attack.

The police continue to investigate the case, gathering further evidence and statements from eyewitnesses. Authorities have assured that all necessary legal actions will be taken.

Similar Incident in Punjab

In a separate case, a Shiv Sena leader named Mangat Rai Manga was shot dead in Punjab’s Moga district on Thursday night. Three assailants on a bike targeted Manga, initially missing and hitting a 12-year-old boy.

The attackers chased Manga, eventually shooting him. Manga was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead. Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Political Tensions and Property Disputes

Surendra Jawahar’s death has raised concerns about increasing political and property-related violence in the region. While Monu has been arrested, the incident underscores the dangerous intersection of political influence and personal conflicts over land.

Authorities have stated that they will pursue the case diligently to ensure justice for the victim’s family. Further updates on the investigation are awaited.
