PM Modi Joins Truth Social, Shares Posts with Trump and Lex Fridman Podcast Link

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined Truth Social, a social media platform owned by Trump Media and popularized by US President Donald Trump.

Modi’s entry into the platform makes him one of the few global leaders to have an active presence on Truth Social.

The Indian Prime Minister marked his debut with two posts, known as “Truths” on the platform. In his first post, Modi shared a photograph with President Trump, calling him “his good friend.”

He wrote, “Delighted to be on Truth Social! Looking forward to interacting with all the passionate voices here and engaging in meaningful conversations in the times to come.”

Modi Shares Podcast with Lex Fridman

In his second post, Modi shared a link to his recent three-hour podcast with renowned podcaster and computer scientist Lex Fridman.

The podcast covered a wide range of subjects, including leadership, global issues, and Modi’s life journey.

President Trump highlighted the podcast on Truth Social earlier that day, reinforcing the growing connection between the two leaders.

Modi responded with gratitude, saying, “Thank you, my friend, President Trump. I’ve covered a wide range of topics, including my life journey, India’s civilisational outlook, global issues and more.”

Modi and Trump’s Strong Relationship

During the podcast, Modi spoke about his personal bond with Trump, describing how both leaders share a similar “nation first” outlook.

Modi noted that despite Trump’s time out of office during Joe Biden’s presidency, their trust remained intact.

When asked what he admires about Trump, Modi recalled the ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston during Trump’s first term. Trump had ignored security protocols to take a lap around the stadium with Modi.

“I was touched by his courage and his trust in me,” Modi said, adding that Trump displayed similar bravery after the assassination attempt on him during the presidential campaign.

Modi highlighted that Trump’s “America First” policy resonates with his own “India First” vision, strengthening their mutual understanding and bond.

Truth Social: A Platform with Political Influence

Truth Social was launched by Trump in February 2022 after he was banned from major social media platforms like Twitter (now X) and Facebook following the January 6 Capitol attack.

Modi’s presence on the platform signals a significant moment in global political engagement on Truth Social.

As of 03:30 GMT on the day of his debut, Modi had gathered 21,500 followers and was following Trump and US Vice President JD Vance.

Much like X, Truth Social allows users to post “Truths” and “ReTruths” (similar to tweets and retweets) and send direct messages. Advertisements on the platform are referred to as “sponsored truths.”

Trump Media’s Financial Position

Truth Social is owned by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which Trump took public in March 2024. Trump currently holds about 57% of the shares in the company.

Besides Trump, ARC Global Investments, based in Kuwait, and some former contestants from The Apprentice also hold significant stakes in the company, although those holdings are currently tied up in legal disputes.

Despite its political influence, Truth Social’s user base remains small compared to its competitors. According to data from Bloomberg, Truth Social’s user base is approximately 400 times smaller than that of X.

TMTG reported losses of $400 million in 2024, with revenue of just $3.6 million. However, the company holds a market valuation of $4.45 billion.

Growing Digital Ties Between Modi and Trump

Trump currently has 9.28 million followers on Truth Social, significantly fewer than the 87 million he has on X.

Nevertheless, Truth Social remains an important platform for Trump’s political communication, and Modi’s entry underscores the growing digital alliance between the two leaders.

Modi’s participation on Truth Social reflects his broader strategy of engaging with global audiences through multiple social media channels.

His presence on the platform is expected to enhance his communication with supporters in both India and the US.

Modi’s Social Media Strategy

Modi is known for his strategic use of social media to connect with a global audience.

His debut on Truth Social marks an expansion of his outreach, potentially engaging with Trump’s supporters and the wider conservative base in the US.

As one of the few global leaders on Truth Social, Modi’s engagement on the platform could strengthen India’s diplomatic and political ties with the US, particularly with Trump’s influence on American politics.

Strengthening India-US Relations

Modi’s alignment with Trump on Truth Social is not just about social media — it reflects the broader political and diplomatic relationship between India and the US.

Their shared vision of putting their respective nations first has been a key factor in strengthening bilateral ties.

Modi’s move to join Truth Social signals a calculated step toward reinforcing this relationship, especially as Trump prepares for the next presidential election.

The growing digital interaction between the two leaders may also influence political narratives in both countries.
