Yuzvendra Chahal Makes a Statement with Bold T-Shirt at Divorce Hearing

Yuzvendra Chahal made a statement with his outfit as he attended the hearing for his joint divorce plea with choreographer Dhanashree Verma at a family court in Mumbai.
The leg-spinner wore a black T-shirt with the message, “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy.” The Bandra Family Court officially granted the divorce on Thursday, March 20.
As part of the settlement, the 34-year-old cricketer agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore in alimony to 28-year-old Dhanashree Verma. Chahal had already transferred ₹2.37 crore, with the remaining amount scheduled to be paid after the divorce was finalized.
The phrase “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy” is commonly associated with financial independence, suggesting that one should be self-reliant rather than depending on others for financial support or gifts.
Marriage and Separation Timeline
Chahal and Dhanashree married in December 2020. However, the couple had been living separately since June 2022. On February 5, 2025, they filed a joint petition for divorce by mutual consent.
Initially, the family court refused to waive the six-month mandatory cooling-off period, citing that the divorce settlement terms had not been fully complied with, including the incomplete payment of alimony.
Following this, Chahal and Dhanashree approached the Bombay High Court, requesting an exemption from the cooling-off period.
The High Court granted their request and directed the family court to make a ruling on the divorce by Thursday.
Speculations and Rumors
Rumors about Chahal and Dhanashree’s separation started circulating earlier in 2024 when the pair removed photos of each other from their social media accounts.
Despite this, neither party addressed the speculation directly, though they occasionally posted cryptic messages online.
In February, Dhanashree’s family lawyer confirmed to India Today that the couple had been living apart and had filed a joint plea for divorce.
Public Appearances and Reactions
Chahal was seen sitting next to RJ Mahvash while supporting the Indian cricket team during the Champions Trophy final in Dubai. This further fueled rumors about his personal life, though Mahvash denied any romantic involvement.
After the court ruling, Chahal left the family court without his jacket, revealing the bold statement on his T-shirt. His attire quickly became a talking point online, with many speculating that it was a subtle jab at Dhanashree.
“The word on his T-shirt says it all,” one social media user commented. Another remarked, “This is the most savage alimony hearing move I’ve ever seen.”
Alimony and Settlement Details
Under the divorce agreement, Chahal agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore in alimony. ₹2.37 crore had already been transferred before the hearing, with the remaining amount to be settled after the court decree.
Reports suggesting that Dhanashree would receive ₹60 crore were dismissed when the actual settlement figure was disclosed.
Chahal’s lawyer, Nitin Kumar Gupta, confirmed on March 20 that the court had accepted the joint petition, officially ending the marriage. “The court has accepted the joint petition of both parties. The parties are no longer husband and wife,” Gupta stated.
Dhanashree’s Post-Divorce Move
On the day the divorce was finalized, Dhanashree released a music video titled ‘Dekha Ji Dekha Maine’, which focuses on domestic violence, toxic relationships, and infidelity. The video features actor Ishwak Singh playing the role of a husband who cheats on his wife. Dhanashree shared the announcement on Instagram with the caption, “Dekha Ji Dekha Maine. Song Out Now!”
Many interpreted the release of the music video as a subtle reference to her recent separation from Chahal.
Chahal’s Future in Cricket
Chahal is set to rejoin the Punjab Kings camp for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener against the Gujarat Titans on March 25 in Ahmedabad.
Punjab Kings secured Chahal for ₹18 crore, and he will be playing alongside Shreyas Iyer under the coaching of Ricky Ponting.
The cricketer’s professional focus now shifts toward the upcoming IPL season as he looks to make an impact for his new team.
Compatibility Issues Cited as Reason for Divorce
Both Chahal and Dhanashree cited “compatibility issues” as the reason for their divorce. Despite attempts to reconcile, they mutually decided to part ways after nearly four years of marriage.
The couple officially filed for divorce on February 5, 2025, and their petition to waive the six-month waiting period was approved by the Bombay High Court.
As they move forward in separate directions, Chahal’s career in cricket continues, while Dhanashree remains focused on her work in the entertainment industry.
