‘Emily in Paris’ Shake-Up: Original Cast Member Exits Ahead of Season 5, While All of Emily’s Love Interests Return

A major cast shakeup is coming to Emily in Paris as Netflix confirms the return of most of the core cast for Season 5—but with one notable absence.

While Lily Collins’ Emily and her romantic interests Gabriel, Alfie, and new character Marcello will all appear in the upcoming season, Camille Razat, who played Camille, will not be returning.

Gabriel, Alfie, and Marcello All Returning

After months of speculation, Lucas Bravo will return as Gabriel in the new season.

Rumors of his departure circulated after Bravo expressed dissatisfaction with the direction of his character, calling the experience “not fun anymore” and claiming Gabriel was “being slowly turned into guacamole.”

Since U.S. series do not hold multi-year contracts for French actors, Bravo had to formally sign on for Season 5, a process that reportedly began in January and ended on a positive note.

Season 5 will also feature Lucien Laviscount’s return as Alfie, Emily’s former boyfriend. Laviscount is returning full-time, and while Alfie was last seen with a new girlfriend, Emily in Paris has never shied away from reigniting past romances.

Another love interest, Marcello—played by Eugenio Franceschini—who debuted in Season 4, is also listed as returning.

While Netflix has not confirmed if Franceschini has been promoted to series regular, his inclusion suggests a deeper role in the storyline, particularly as he ended Season 4 in a budding relationship with Emily.

Camille’s Departure Confirmed

Missing from the returning cast list is Camille Razat, who played Camille, Emily’s former friend and one-time romantic rival.

Camille’s departure does not come as a surprise to fans, as she was seen leaving Paris under strained circumstances—ending her relationship with Gabriel after faking a pregnancy.

Asked last year whether characters like Camille and Alfie were out for good, creator Darren Star said, “Not necessarily. I mean people come and go out of people’s lives in shows for a period of time, but it doesn’t mean that they’re off the table.”

New Setting and Production Update

Netflix has announced that production for Season 5 will begin in May 2025, starting in Rome before moving to Paris later in the summer.

This transition mirrors the show’s plot, where Emily is seen taking up a new role in Rome with Agence Grateau, the marketing firm led by Sylvie Grateau, played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu.

Darren Star clarified that the move is not permanent. “She didn’t change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome. She is working in Rome sometimes. Sylvie’s company has an office in Rome. Emily’s getting that on its feet,” he explained. “We’re not leaving Paris.”

Familiar Faces and a Potential New Rival

Season 5 will feature many returning favorites. Confirmed cast members include Lily Collins (Emily), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Ashley Park (Mindy), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine), and Lucien Laviscount (Alfie).

Franceschini (Marcello) also returns, while Thalia Besson (Genevieve) may join again, though her status remains unconfirmed.

Genevieve, the daughter of French director Luc Besson, made a brief but noticeable appearance in Season 4, showing interest in Gabriel and catching Emily’s attention in an uncomfortable way.

If she returns, she may serve as a new antagonist in the series, especially in Camille’s absence.

Lucas Bravo’s Mixed Feelings About Gabriel

Despite returning, Bravo has expressed concerns about his character’s evolution. “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I’ve never been so far away from him,” Bravo said in an interview.

These comments highlight the challenges of long-running roles in ensemble series.

While fans have speculated about Gabriel and Emily rekindling their romance, Bravo’s words reflect the tension between an actor’s artistic vision and a show’s narrative demands.

A Fashion-Filled Season Ahead

Emily in Paris continues to capture audiences with its blend of fashion, romance, and workplace drama. As Emily embarks on a new adventure in Rome with Marcello, the series promises more style, scenic backdrops, and romantic twists.

Though Season 5’s official release date has not been confirmed, Netflix has set a 2025 premiere, with no significant time jump between seasons.

As fans eagerly await the next chapter in Emily’s life, Season 5 is poised to bring fresh dynamics while maintaining the charm and drama that have made the series a global hit.
