Jasprit Bumrah’s Painful Full-Toss Hits Abhinav Manohar, Sparks Buzz with Unexpected Reaction

Mumbai Indians’ bowling unit outshone expectations at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday, curtailing Sunrisers Hyderabad to a modest 143/8 despite conditions that favoured batting.
Leading the attack was Trent Boult, who claimed four wickets, while Deepak Chahar contributed with two. Jasprit Bumrah, although managing only one wicket, dismissed the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen, a pivotal breakthrough in the innings.
Bumrah’s Full Toss Hits Manohar, Draws Backlash
The match took an unexpected turn during the penultimate over when Jasprit Bumrah, who had not yet taken a wicket, bowled an errant full toss that struck Abhinav Manohar below the stomach.
Manohar, who had earlier hit Bumrah for a six, collapsed on the ground from the blow. However, Bumrah’s lack of concern—simply returning to his bowling mark without checking on the batter—sparked controversy and criticism from fans.
Manohar had stepped in as an Impact Player and made a crucial contribution of 43 runs off 37 balls. His steady partnership with Klaasen, which yielded 99 runs, was instrumental in keeping SRH from collapsing entirely.
Klaasen Anchors the Innings
Heinrich Klaasen played an outstanding knock under pressure. Scoring 71 off 44 balls, his innings included nine boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 161.36.
Klaasen appeared unbothered by the difficulties faced by other SRH batters, showing control and composure throughout.
Abhinav Manohar, meanwhile, began cautiously before accelerating late in the innings. His 43-run contribution included three sixes and two fours before he was dismissed hit-wicket in the final over.
SRH’s Top-Order Collapse and Kishan’s Misjudgment
Sunrisers’ innings got off to a dismal start, with the top four batters—Travis Head (0), Abhishek Sharma (8), Ishan Kishan (1), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2)—all falling for single-digit scores. The team could muster just 24 runs during the powerplay.
Ishan Kishan’s dismissal was particularly puzzling. Without a significant appeal from the fielding side or a clear umpiring decision, he began walking off.
Replays later revealed no edge on the Snickometer, highlighting the error in his judgment.
Bumrah Criticized for Cold Reaction
Jasprit Bumrah’s reaction after hitting Manohar drew considerable backlash on social media. While his aggressive bowling is well known, the lack of empathy following the incident was widely condemned.
Fans pointed out previous instances where Bumrah had shown frustration after being hit for sixes, suggesting a pattern in his on-field behaviour.
Despite the controversy, Bumrah’s performance in the match included the key wicket of Klaasen. His spell read 1/39 from four overs.
Milestone for Bumrah Amid the Criticism
While the criticism of Bumrah’s behaviour circulated, the match also marked a major personal achievement for the pacer.
He reached the milestone of 300 T20 wickets, becoming the fourth Indian bowler to achieve this feat. The others in the elite club are Ravichandran Ashwin (315), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (318), and Yuzvendra Chahal (373).
During the match, Bumrah also equaled the legendary Lasith Malinga as the highest wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians, with 170 wickets in 138 matches.
His overall T20 stats now stand at 300 wickets from 238 matches, with best figures of 5/10 and an average of 22.78 in the IPL.
Mumbai’s Winning Momentum
Mumbai Indians have gained momentum in the ongoing IPL 2025, with three consecutive wins. Bumrah’s return to the team has played a significant role in strengthening their bowling line-up.
As MI continues its campaign, the focus will also remain on how players conduct themselves on the field, especially in moments of intense competition.
