Kannada Actor and Reality Show Winner Rakesh Poojary Dies at 34 After Sudden Collapse at Mehendi Event

Rakesh Poojary, the Kannada and Tulu actor and winner of a popular reality show, tragically passed away at the age of 34 on Monday. The incident occurred during a mehendi function at a friend’s residence in Miyar, Karkala.
His untimely demise has shocked fans and members of the entertainment community alike.
Collapsed During Wedding Event
According to Rakshith, a resident of Tonse in Udupi, Rakesh had been battling thyroid-related issues for the last 10–12 years. Around 1.15 am, shortly after attending a mehendi event in Miyar, Poojary complained of chest pain.
He was rushed to a local hospital and later moved to the Karkala Government Hospital at 3.10 am. Sadly, he was declared dead on arrival. The Karkala Town Police Station registered a case of unnatural death.
A Life in Entertainment
Fondly known as Vishwaroop, Rakesh hailed from Karkala, Udupi, and rose to fame after winning Comedy Khiladigalu Season 3. He had earlier finished as runner-up in Season 2.
Before his television debut, he was active in the theatre scene with the Chaitanya Nataka Kalavidaru troupe.
Rakesh’s entry into the limelight began with a Tulu comedy reality show. His acting credits include Kannada TV serial Hitler and notable films like Pailwaan and Idu Enthaa Lokavayya.
In the Tulu film industry, he featured in titles like Petkammi, Ammer Polisaa, Umil, and Illokkel.
He also performed in Tulu plays such as Bale Telepale, which earned him a devoted fan base.
Moments Before His Death
Just hours before his death, Rakesh posted a photo on his Instagram Story from the mehendi ceremony. He had also shared a birthday wish for his sister.
A video of him at the event has since gone viral. Sources report that he was dancing moments before he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but doctors could not revive him.
Rakesh had reportedly completed shooting for Kantara: Chapter 1, a highly anticipated sequel to the 2022 hit Kantara. His portion in the film was fully shot on May 11, the day before his passing.

The news of Rakesh’s death sparked an outpouring of grief from fans, colleagues, and celebrities. Actor Shivraj KR Pete confirmed the news via Instagram, writing, “How do we pray for peace for a soul that brought smiles to so many hearts?”
Actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty, who stars in Kantara: Chapter 1, also expressed his sorrow in an emotional Instagram post written in Telugu.
He said, “You were not just a part of our lives, but you left a deep impact on our hearts. Your smile, words, and presence always brought joy to those around you…”
Judge Rakshitha from Comedy Khiladigalu also paid tribute online, saying, “The ever-smiling Rakesha…my fav Rakesha..the sweetest kindest loving person… Namma Rakesha…will miss you mange.”
Legacy in the Kannada and Tulu Industry
Rakesh’s popularity extended across both Kannada and Tulu entertainment industries. His television and film roles brought him wide recognition, but his roots in theatre remained an important part of his artistic journey.
He first gained attention in 2014 with his appearance on the Tulu reality show Kadale Bajil and gradually became a household name across Karnataka.

Rakesh is survived by his mother and sister. His final rites were performed at the Hoode Billava cremation ground in his hometown on Monday evening. Friends, fans, and fellow actors gathered to pay their last respects.
