Assamese Singer Gayatri Hazarika Passes Away at 44 After Battle with Cancer

Gayatri Hazarika, a noted Assamese singer, passed away on Friday following a prolonged battle with colon cancer. The 44-year-old artist had been receiving treatment at Nemcare Hospitals in Guwahati.
Dr Hitesh Baruah confirmed the news of her demise to News Live. He stated,
“It’s a very sad day for all of us. We have lost Gayatri Hazarika. She passed away at our hospital at 2:15 pm today. She was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment at our hospital. She was admitted three days ago after her condition deteriorated and had to be admitted to the ICU yesterday where she breathed her last.”
Her passing has left the Assamese music fraternity and her admirers in deep mourning.
Public Tribute and Final Rites
In honour of her contribution to Assamese music, Gayatri Hazarika’s mortal remains will be kept at the AASU headquarters, Swahid Nyas, from 6 to 8 pm, allowing the public to pay their last respects.
Her final rites are scheduled to take place later tonight at the Nabagraha crematorium.
