Jamie Overton Re-Signs with Adelaide Strikers as BBL Pre-Draft International Pick

England allrounder Jamie Overton will rejoin the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming Big Bash League season, after being secured as the club’s international pre-signing ahead of the BBL overseas draft.

Overton’s Impactful Tenure with Strikers

Overton has been a key player for the Strikers, appearing in 18 matches over the last two seasons since first being drafted by the team in 2023. His performances earned him the Most Valuable Player award last season.

With 27 wickets at an economy rate of 8.81 and 276 runs scored at an average of 69, Overton has proved his worth with both bat and ball. His explosive batting was highlighted by an unbeaten 32 off just 14 balls in his most recent outing against the Sydney Sixers.

BBL’s Pre-Signing Rule and Overton’s Availability

The Big Bash League introduced a rule last season allowing one overseas player to be pre-signed ahead of the draft.

This player must be available for the entire tournament, including the finals, to avoid late-season departures to other global leagues. Overton meets this requirement and will be available throughout BBL15.

Coach Tim Paine on Securing Overton

Strikers head coach Tim Paine expressed his satisfaction with Overton’s early signing. “Securing Jamie as a pre-draft signing was a top priority for us,” Paine said.

“His last two seasons with the Strikers have been outstanding, not just with his individual performances with both bat and ball, but also with his competitive spirit and energy he brings to the group.

“Jamie has such a big impact over the game, he can change the course of a match in just a few overs.”

Overton Looks Ahead to BBL15

Overton, who turns 31 this year, is equally enthusiastic about his return to Adelaide. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be coming back to Adelaide for another season,” he said.

“I’ve loved my time with the Strikers and the incredible support we get from the fans at Adelaide Oval. It’s a fantastic Club with a great bunch of lads, and I’m determined to help us push for finals and ultimately, the BBL title in BBL|15.”

Other BBL Pre-Signings and Draft Outlook

With Overton confirmed, the Sydney Sixers remain the only BBL franchise without a pre-signed overseas player.

Other confirmed signings include Colin Munro (Brisbane Heat), Chris Jordan (Hobart Hurricanes), Tim Seifert (Melbourne Renegades), Tom Curran (Melbourne Stars), Finn Allen (Perth Scorchers), and Sam Billings (Sydney Thunder). These players signed two-year deals ahead of the previous season.

Squad Changes for the Strikers

The Strikers will also see changes in their squad composition this season. Brendan Doggett and Jake Weatherald have moved to the Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes, respectively.

However, the Strikers have strengthened their lineup with the acquisition of Jason Sangha from the Sydney Thunder, following his strong performance in the Sheffield Shield with South Australia.

Draft Picks and Overton’s 2025 MVP Season

The Adelaide Strikers hold picks No.2, 10, 23, and 26 in the BBL overseas draft, scheduled for June 19.

Overton’s return is a major boost for the team, especially following his MVP-winning season in 2025 where he took 11 wickets and scored 191 runs at an impressive average of 95.40. His highest score of the season was 45 not out, underlining his reliability as a finisher.

Paine Reiterates Overton’s Value

Reiterating his earlier comments, head coach Tim Paine said:
“Securing Jamie as a pre-draft signing was a top priority for us. His last two seasons with the Strikers have been outstanding, not just with his individual performances with both bat and ball, but also with his competitive spirit and energy he brings to the group. Jamie has such a big impact over the game, he can change the course of a match in just a few overs.”

Looking Ahead to the Draft

The BBL overseas draft, where teams will complete their squads for the upcoming season, will take place on June 19. Overton’s early signing gives the Strikers a head start in their bid for BBL|15 success.
