Paramount+ Renews Tom Hardy-Led Crime Drama ‘MobLand’ for Season 2

Paramount+ has confirmed that its hit crime drama MobLand will return for a second season. The show has quickly established itself as one of the most popular original series on the platform, drawing millions of viewers since its March 30 debut.

Following its success, MobLand became the second-highest performing show in Paramount+ history, trailing only behind Landman. Now, the stage is set for another thrilling chapter in the Harrigan family’s story.

MobLand Fills the Mob Drama Void

MobLand has captured audiences looking for a gritty mob series, filling the gap left by shows like Peaky Blinders. With its explosive first season, the series delivered high-stakes drama, power struggles, and family betrayals, quickly building a devoted fanbase.

The series stars Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan crime family.

Leading the family is Conrad Harrigan, played by Pierce Brosnan, alongside Helen Mirren as his wife, Maeve. Their son Kevin, portrayed by Paddy Considine, rounds out the central cast.

Set in London, the story follows the Harrigans as they battle rival crime family, the Stevensons.

But by the end of the action-packed season finale, the Stevensons have been defeated, and the Harrigans have attracted the attention of even more dangerous players.

Star Power and Creative Team Behind MobLand

MobLand has been bolstered by a powerful creative team and a star-studded cast. Directed by Guy Ritchie (known for The Gentlemen and Wrath of Man) and written by Jez Butterworth (Ford v Ferrari, The Ferryman) along with Ronan Bennett (Top Boy), the series was originally conceived as a spin-off of Showtime’s Ray Donovan.

However, during development—likely around the time of the Paramount and Showtime merger—the project evolved into a stand-alone series. That decision proved successful, with the show drawing 8.8 million viewers in its first week, according to Deadline.

Season 2 Confirmed, Main Cast Expected to Return

With the series’ popularity soaring, Paramount+ officially renewed MobLand for a second season on June 23. All major cast members—Hardy, Brosnan, Mirren, and Considine—are expected to return.

MobLand’s season 1 antagonist, Richie Stevenson, played by Geoff Bell, met his end in the finale, marking a shift in the power dynamics for season 2.

David C. Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, shared his excitement for the show’s future. “With the extraordinary talent of Guy, Ronan, Jez, and our incredible cast, we brought the vision of a great mob series to life,” he said in an official statement.

Paramount co-CEO Chris McCarthy echoed that sentiment, calling MobLand a “global phenomenon” that has dominated both domestic and international charts, even reaching the number one spot in the UK.

Tom Hardy Hints at International Crime Expansion

Looking ahead, Tom Hardy has expressed optimism about MobLand continuing for several seasons. He suggested that future storylines could expand beyond London, exploring the global reach of organised crime.

“There are international elements to organised crime, which are touched on in season 1,” Hardy explained. “The control of drugs, ammunition, weapons, and people across Europe, Africa, South America, and Pakistan… There are families in each European country vying for power to control these commodities.”

Such an expansion could see MobLand evolve into an international crime saga, with deeper exploration of global smuggling networks and the families that control them.

Production Timeline and Expected Return

MobLand season 1 began filming in November 2024 and wrapped by March 2025, just days before the show premiered. While there is no official release date for season 2 yet, it is likely to follow a similar timeline, with filming potentially starting later this year.

Producer David Glasser confirmed that the same team will return for season 2. “Same team, same everybody. Everybody’s coming back. One big family,” he told Deadline.

With its gripping storytelling, international intrigue, and powerhouse performances, MobLand has secured its place among Paramount+’s top shows. Fans can expect more danger, power plays, and family drama when season 2 arrives.
