Father of RG Kar Medical College Victim Slams TMC Over Kolkata Law Student Gangrape

Father of RG Kar Medical College Victim Slams TMC Over Kolkata Law Student Gangrape

Nearly a year after the tragic rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College shook Kolkata, another shocking incident has reignited public anger and political tensions in West Bengal.

A female student from a law college in South Kolkata’s Kasba area was allegedly gang-raped, drawing sharp reactions from across the political spectrum.

Law College Security Guard Also Arrested

Kolkata Police on Saturday confirmed that Pinaki Banerjee, the 55-year-old security guard of the law college, has been arrested in connection with the case.

His arrest comes as part of the ongoing investigation, which has already seen the detention of three other accused linked to the institution.

Victim’s Father Slams Government for Inaction

The father of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim expressed deep frustration over the repeated incidents of violence against women in the state.

Reacting to the recent incident at the law college, he said, “Such incidents are happening again and again. After what happened to my daughter, many people protested.

Even after that, it continues. People inside the colleges are committing these crimes. The government has a significant role in this.”

He also pointed to the political affiliations of the accused, stating, “All three arrested are from the TMC. This party must ensure such incidents do not happen again. The accused should be severely punished.”

TMC Rejects Blame, Highlights Police Action

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shashi Panja expressed distress over the incident but dismissed the political accusations.

Addressing a press conference, she said, “Trinamool Congress’s student wing is not teaching students to rape.” She added that the police acted swiftly, arresting all three accused within 12 hours of the complaint.

Panja further accused the BJP of exploiting the incident for political mileage.

“BJP is trying to malign us because they can’t match the swift action of Kolkata Police. If they want to be a responsible Opposition in Bengal, they should behave accordingly,” she said.

BJP Hits Out at TMC Over the Incident

Meanwhile, BJP West Bengal posted on X, accusing the TMC of being synonymous with “Terror, Molester, and Corruption.”

The post sparked fresh political sparring between the two parties, with the BJP demanding strict action and accountability.

Details of the Alleged Gangrape Case

The alleged gangrape took place inside the law college premises on Wednesday evening between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM.

Following the incident, the victim filed a police complaint, leading to the arrest of three accused — Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20). All three have connections to the law college, either as former students or staff members.

According to police officials, the accused were arrested swiftly. Mishra and Ahmed were detained near Talbagan Crossing on Thursday, while Mukhopadhyay was arrested later that night at his residence.

The police have seized the mobile phones of the accused as part of their investigation.

The accused have been produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Alipore, with police seeking custody remand for further investigation.

Forensic Team Examines Crime Scene

A forensic team has conducted an examination of the crime scene, which remains under protection as the investigation continues.

Police officials stated that one of the accused allegedly committed sexual assault while the others were involved in the crime.

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with mobile phone records, forensic evidence, and victim statements forming key parts of the probe.

Public Demands Action and Reform

The incident has once again brought women’s safety in Kolkata under the spotlight. Citizens, activists, and political leaders have called for strict action, accountability, and systemic reforms to ensure such incidents do not repeat.

The case has stirred painful memories of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder, where widespread protests followed, demanding justice and stronger safety measures.

Despite assurances from the authorities, concerns remain over the safety of women in educational institutions across West Bengal.

As the investigation unfolds, the incident continues to fuel public anger, political blame games, and renewed calls for justice.
