Rajiv Thakur Breaks Silence on Absence from Season 3 of The Great Indian Kapil Show

Kapil Sharma’s popular comedy show The Great Indian Kapil Show returned for its third season in June, featuring familiar comedians like Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, and Sunil Grover.

However, fans were quick to notice the absence of Rajiv Thakur, a regular face from previous seasons.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Rajiv finally addressed his absence and shared his side of the story, shedding light on the reasons behind not joining Season 3.

Why Rajiv Thakur Skipped Season 3

When asked if his focus on stand-up comedy was the reason for missing the current season, Rajiv responded with humor, saying, “Itne bade show se koi rest nahi leta, obviously aapko nikala gaya hoga.”

He followed it up by laughing and clarifying, “Just kidding. Shayad kuch dates match nahi hui kyunki voh beech beech mein bula rahe the. Like ek episode kiya fir dusre ki mere paas date nahi thi. Mereko naa ek hota hai commitment kardi toh uspe rehna hai. Unko bhi time ka bahut chal raha hai ki 55 min ka hi episode banana hai, already Kiku, Krushna aur guest have so much to do fir yahan space bhut kum banti hai aapki.”

Rajiv explained that the limited runtime of 55 minutes for each episode made it challenging to accommodate everyone.

With multiple comedians and a celebrity guest in every episode, the available screen time for each artist became tight, making it hard for him to commit to a meaningful role.

Rajiv Thakur’s Journey with the Show

Rajiv was an integral part of Seasons 1 and 2 of The Great Indian Kapil Show. Known for his impeccable timing and chemistry with Kapil Sharma, his absence in the current season stood out.

The latest season not only brought back Navjot Singh Sidhu alongside Archana Puran Singh but also introduced a new segment where fans are invited on stage to showcase their talent.

The show kicked off with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as the guest in the first episode. Upcoming episodes will feature appearances by Parineeti Chopra and her husband, politician Raghav Chadha.

Stand-Up Comedy Comeback

In parallel, Rajiv Thakur has made a strong return to stand-up comedy.

Encouraged by fellow comedian Samay Raina, Rajiv uploaded one of his comic sets on YouTube, which received a positive response. This renewed interest has led him to launch a new India tour titled Gen Z Aur 90s Waale.

The tour begins on 8 August at Gurgaon’s Guftagu Comedy Club and continues in Delhi on 9 August. It will travel through cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Lucknow before concluding in Kanpur on 28 September.

Reflections on Public Perception and Humor

During the interview, Rajiv also spoke candidly about how certain jokes affected his public image. Reflecting on his days on Comedy Circus, he shared a moment when he chose to give child artist Saloni Daini all the funny lines instead of joking at her expense.

One punchline, “Main ek bacche ki salary pe jee raha hoon,” stuck with the audience more literally than he had intended.

He said, “People started taking that literally. They began thinking I was boring or unsuccessful. That perception stuck with me off-screen. But can a boring person do 14 seasons of a comedy show over 8 years?”

A Balancing Act Between Stage and Identity

Rajiv Thakur’s honest revelations offer insight into the challenges comedians face while balancing scripted humor and real-life perceptions.

While the punchlines may work on stage, they sometimes blur the lines between character and identity off-screen. His journey highlights the tightrope artists often walk to entertain audiences while staying true to themselves.

With his return to stand-up and a growing fanbase online, Rajiv Thakur continues to reinvent himself while maintaining his signature comic touch.
