Jeremy Renner Eyes MCU Return After Near-Fatal Snowplow Accident and Remarkable Recovery

Jeremy Renner recently expressed his desire to return as Clint Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing his optimism for a potential second season of the Disney+ series ‘Hawkeye’.

In an interview with Empire, Renner said, “I’m always happy to be in that world, man. I love all those guys, I love the character. I’m sure we’ll end up doing Season 2, and do other things. And I’m happy to do it.”

Preparing Physically for the Role Again

Renner confirmed he is getting physically ready to take on the superhero mantle once again.

“My body’s getting ready for something like that. I don’t know if anybody wants to see me in tights, but my body will look good in the tights,” he remarked. The actor assured fans that he has recovered “more than 150%” from his near-fatal snowmobile accident in 2023.

Speaking about his journey back to health, Renner shared, “Having health and wellness be such a central part of my life, that’s what’s gotten me back. And even as I age, I just feel stronger than I’ve been. I have some issues, and tendon issues and certain limitations of flexibility and mobility, but I spent a lot of time on getting better and stronger, and I wouldn’t if I didn’t get crushed.”

Past Appearances in the MCU

Jeremy Renner has portrayed Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye, in several major MCU films including The Avengers (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

His last theatrical appearance was in Black Widow (2021), where he made a special appearance, and he was most recently seen in a cameo in the MCU series Echo (2024).

Reduced Offer from Marvel for Season 2

In an earlier interview, Renner revealed that Marvel had approached him for a second season of Hawkeye, but the offer came with a significant pay cut.

“They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,’” he said.

He speculated that his accident might have influenced the reduced offer.

At the time, he had suffered multiple severe injuries, including eight ribs broken in 14 places, a broken right knee and ankle, a broken left leg tibia and ankle, and a broken right clavicle and shoulder.

Reflecting on Marvel’s approach, he said, “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.’”

Stronger Than Ever Post-Recovery

Renner remains committed to his recovery and confident in his physical capabilities.

Despite lingering tendon and flexibility issues, he has focused on rebuilding strength and preparing for demanding roles like Hawkeye. “I spent a lot of time on getting better and stronger, and I wouldn’t if I didn’t get crushed,” he said.

Looking Ahead: Upcoming Projects

While Renner’s return to the MCU as Hawkeye is still unconfirmed officially, he remains open and enthusiastic about the possibility.

Meanwhile, the actor will next be seen in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, an American mystery-thriller film featuring Daniel Craig, Josh O’Connor, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, and others in pivotal roles.

A Hero’s Journey Beyond the Screen

Renner’s path to recovery and his continued passion for Hawkeye resonate deeply with fans. Having portrayed the archer in seven different MCU projects, Renner’s connection to the character is well established.

The original Avenger continues to inspire, not just through on-screen action but also through resilience and dedication behind the scenes.

Whether or not he returns for Hawkeye Season 2, Jeremy Renner has made it clear: he’s ready, willing, and capable—tights and all.
