Aamir Khan’s Family Denies Faissal Khan’s Allegations, Calls Them ‘Hurtful and Misleading’
Days after Faisal Khan, younger brother of Aamir Khan, made serious allegations against the Sitaare Zameen Par actor in a recent podcast, the family has issued a statement expressing distress over what they describe as a “hurtful and misleading portrayal” of their members.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Faisal claimed that his family had told him he suffered from schizophrenia and was a threat to society. He also alleged that Aamir had kept him under house arrest for a year.
While Faisal has previously spoken publicly against Aamir and their family, this is the first time the family has issued a formal statement in response.
The Family’s Statement
The statement expressed concern over Faisal’s remarks about their mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, sister Nikhat Hegde, and brother Aamir Khan.
“We are distressed by Faisal’s hurtful and misleading portrayal of his mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, his sister Nikhat Hegde, and his brother Aamir. As this is not the first time he has misrepresented these events, we feel it necessary to clarify our intentions, and reaffirm our solidarity as a family,” it read.
According to the family, every decision regarding Faisal’s well-being was made collectively, in consultation with multiple medical professionals, and was rooted in “love, compassion, and a desire to support his emotional and psychological well-being.”
They also emphasized that they had refrained from sharing details of the difficult period publicly out of respect for Faisal.
Appealing to the media, the statement requested, “We request the media for empathy, and to refrain from turning a private matter into salacious, inflammatory and hurtful gossip.”
The statement carried signatures from numerous family members, including Aamir’s first wife Reena Datta, son Junaid Khan, daughter Ira Khan, Kiran Rao, Mansoor Khan, Nuzhat Khan, Imran Khan, Tina Fonseca, Zayn Marie Khan, Pablo Khan, and others.
Faisal’s Allegations
Faisal, who has acted in several films alongside Aamir, alleged that he was kept confined in Aamir’s home in Mumbai for a year.
“They were saying I’ve got schizophrenia and I’m a mad person. I can harm society. Ye sab baatein ho rahi thi… Main usme fass gaya tha kyunki saari family mere khilaaf jaa rahi thi. Mujhe pagal samjh rahe the,” he said.
He claimed that his father, who stayed away from family politics, was the only one who could have helped him. However, he had no way to reach him as he did not have his number.
“Aamir ne mujhe qaid kar diya tha ghar me ek saal. Mobile le liya, main bahar nahi jaa sakta. Bodyguard mere room ke bahar. Dawaiyan de rahe hain,” Faisal alleged.
He added that after a year, Aamir allowed him to move into another house when he insisted on leaving.
History of Strained Relations
The brothers have had a difficult relationship for years. Faisal was involved in a legal dispute with his family when he was asked to give up his signatory rights.
He had also undergone a 20-day mental evaluation at JJ Hospital, after which he was declared mentally fit and healthy.
Professional Collaborations
Aamir and Faisal starred together in the 2000 film Mela, directed by Dharmesh Darshan and co-starring Twinkle Khanna. Faisal had earlier appeared in small roles in Aamir’s films, including Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar.
