Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez Announce Engagement

On Monday, Georgina Rodríguez, longtime girlfriend of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, shared an Instagram post revealing a large oval-cut diamond ring on her finger.

Her hand, with freshly manicured glazed French nails, rested on another hand — presumably Ronaldo’s, as he was tagged in the photo.

“Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives,” she wrote in Spanish.

The size of the ring quickly became a talking point. Some compared it to a Ring Pop candy, while others joked it was valuable enough to end world hunger. Jewelry influencer Julia Chafé quipped, “To wear this stone regularly, you’re going to need a finger reconstruction surgery… Painful, but worth it.”

From Gucci to Global Fame

Rodríguez, 31, met Ronaldo in 2016 while working at a Gucci store in Madrid. At the time, he was playing for Real Madrid. Today, Ronaldo plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

Anya Walsh, jewelry specialist at London’s 77 Diamonds, said she was stunned by the ring’s size.

“Usually when you see even celebrity proposals, it’s around two to three carats or maybe five carats. This ring is in a league of its own. It’s taking a good third of her finger.”

Comparable Celebrity Jewels

Walsh estimated the ring’s weight at 35 carats and cost at least $5 million, drawing comparisons to Mariah Carey’s 35-carat emerald-cut engagement ring from 2016, Elizabeth Taylor’s 33-carat diamond gifted by Richard Burton in 1968, Kobe Bryant’s $4 million “apology ring” to Vanessa Bryant in 2003, and Lauren Sánchez Bezos’ oval diamond from her 2025 wedding.

“This is one of the biggest celebrity engagements we’ve seen in a while,” Walsh said. She predicted an increase in demand for oval diamonds, particularly due to Ronaldo’s influence.

Why Oval Diamonds Stand Out

Oval diamonds are popular for their romantic look, second only to round brilliant stones at 77 Diamonds.

“Even though this is a huge diamond, it has that contour where it’s quite delicate,” Walsh noted. She explained that the elongated shape can make the hand appear more slender.

Rodríguez’s ring appears to feature two smaller oval diamonds on each side — a trilogy design representing the past, present, and future.

Olivia Landau, founder of New York jeweler The Clear Cut, estimated each side stone at around three carats and suggested the trend could gain popularity in smaller sizes.

Given Rodríguez’s history with high-end jewelry, Landau believes the stone is a natural diamond. “She’s known for being a maximalist with her jewelry,” she said.

Multiple Expert Estimates

Ann Grimmett, vice president at Jared Jewelers, valued the diamond between 30 and 40 carats, at $5 million to $15 million. Celebrity jeweler George Khalife estimated it at 20 to 25 carats, with a price tag of $5 million to $7 million, noting it was likely near colorless and of very high quality.

“Knowing who he is and his impact on the world,” Walsh said of Ronaldo, “I don’t think he could have done it any other way.”

Relationship and Family Life

Ronaldo and Rodríguez have been together for nine years. They share two children, including their youngest daughter Bella, born in April 2022 alongside a stillborn twin brother. Rodríguez also helps raise Ronaldo’s three other children.

The model and reality star, who fronts the Netflix series “I Am Georgina,” had previously addressed speculation about marriage on the show, saying her friends often joked about it. “Since Jennifer Lopez’s song ‘The Ring Or When’ came out, they started singing it to me. And well, this is not up to me.”

The engagement announcement attracted attention from stars like Kim Kardashian, who liked the post.

Piers Morgan wished them “as much success in their marriage as he’s had on the football pitch,” while Charlotte Tilbury called it “fabulous news.” Lauren Sánchez Bezos wrote that she was “so happy” for the couple.

Life in Riyadh and Ronaldo’s Career

The family currently resides in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in December 2022 on a contract worth a reported £177 million ($238 million) annually.

In June 2025, his contract was extended until 2027, ending speculation about retirement.
