Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi Announce Adoption of Baby Daughter
Millie Bobby Brown, the 21-year-old star of Stranger Things and Enola Holmes, has shared joyful news with her fans. She and her husband, Jake Bongiovi, have adopted a baby daughter.
Brown made the announcement through an Instagram post on Thursday, where she wrote: “This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.”
The heartfelt message concluded with: “And then there were 3. Love, Millie and Jake Bongiovi.” The couple did not disclose the name of their daughter but included an image of a willow tree alongside their statement.
Marriage and Family Journey
The adoption news comes 15 months after Millie Bobby Brown married Jake Bongiovi, the 23-year-old son of musician Jon Bon Jovi. At the time of their wedding, Brown was just 20 years old.
In a past interview with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Brown revealed that her parents, as well as Bongiovi’s, had also married young. “We had really great role models. We didn’t see any different,” she explained.
The couple first met through a mutual friend and bonded after Brown reached out to Jake directly. They now reside on a farm, where they live with several animals.
Brown’s Connection with Rescue Work
Beyond acting, Brown is strongly committed to animal welfare. She is affiliated with a dog rescue center named Joey’s Friends and has personally rescued more than 230 dogs.
At one point, she was fostering 23 dogs in her own home, as she shared during her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.
Acting Career and Ongoing Projects
Millie Bobby Brown rose to fame at the age of 12 with her breakthrough role as Eleven in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things.
The show, one of the streaming platform’s biggest successes, will conclude with its fifth and final season at the end of 2025.
In addition to Stranger Things, Brown has starred in two Enola Holmes films and finished shooting the third installment in June this year. Her other credits include Damsel, The Electric State with Chris Pratt, and two Godzilla films.
A Look Into Parenthood Plans
The young actress has openly spoken about her wish to become a parent. Earlier this year, during an appearance on the SmartLess podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, Brown revealed her desire for a large family with Bongiovi. “Jake knows how important it is to me [to have a child],” she said.
While she emphasized the importance of continuing to build her career as both an actor and producer, Brown made it clear that parenthood held equal value for her.
“Of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find it’s so important to start a family, for me, personally,” she shared.
The Shaved Head Experience
An old interview of Brown resurfaced after the adoption announcement, where she spoke about wanting to shave her head before having her first child. She described the idea as a liberating and powerful experience.
“I always tell Jake, like, for my first baby I want to shave my hair off. I don’t know I just feel like it was really liberating. Would suggest it for anyone… I think it’s such a liberating experience like to be a woman is… and I felt like I had that experience as a girl but I’d like to have that experience as a woman,” she said on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
Reflecting on shaving her head for Stranger Things, Brown recalled not feeling anxious or sad. “Honestly, I did not care, I didn’t have anxiety, I wasn’t sad when they shaved it off. I just thought, ‘cool,’ like now that’s what I’m doing.”
However, as she grew older, she admitted that insecurities began to surface. “I think it became to the point where I was like 11 or 12, where I was like the boys started like liking girls and I was kind of like ‘why are boys not liking me,’ and then I was like, ‘Oh I’m feeling insecure.’ I would put wigs on and I did get bullied in public, people would make comments and stuff but honestly, I still to this day like loved the experience and I would do it again,” she added.
Writing and Publishing Journey
In 2023, Brown released her debut novel Nineteen Steps, inspired by her grandmother’s experience during the 1943 Bethnal Green tube disaster.
The book, ghostwritten by Kathleen McGurl, sparked discussions about celebrity ghostwriting, as only Brown’s name appeared on the cover.
Addressing the criticism, Brown posted a picture of herself with McGurl on Instagram, captioned: “I couldn’t have done this without you!”
Personal Life and Future
Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi tied the knot in October last year after announcing their engagement in 2023. Alongside photos from their wedding, Jake wrote: “Forever and always, your husband.”
Now, with the adoption of their daughter, the couple is looking ahead to the next chapter of their lives together.
