Swachhta Saarthi Fellowships – GoI
  • Swachhta Saarthi Fellowships initiated by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser.
  • The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser of GOI launched the “Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship” to recognize students, community workers/self-help groups and municipal/health workers who are committed to science and sustainably respond to the great challenges of waste management.
  • This is part of Waste to Wealth Mission.
  • “Waste to Wealth” mission is one of the nine national missions of Prime Minister’s Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC).
  • Fellowship is an initiative aimed at empowering young innovators with the capacity of Swachhta Saarthis to engage in community management, waste management/publicity campaigns/waste survey/research and other community work, and take actions to reduce the waste of the green planet.
  • This fellowship aims to enable interested students and citizens to continue their efforts to reduce waste in urban and rural areas.
  • Fellowships invite applications from students and community workers who have already done work or currently engaged in waste management activities (including awareness campaigns, surveys and research).
  • The three categories of awards under the fellowship are as follows:
  • Category A– Open to school students of 9 to 12 standards participating in waste management community work.
  • Category B– Open to college students (UG, PG, research students) participating in waste management community work.
  • Category C– Open to citizens working in the community and through SHG, municipal or health workers who, work beyond their work requirements/descriptions.
