Aamir Khan Unveils First Look of Sitaare Zameen Par, Sets June 20 Release Date

Bollywood star Aamir Khan’s production house, Aamir Khan Productions, has released the first look poster of the highly anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par.
The announcement was made on May 5, and the film is scheduled to hit theatres on June 20. Serving as a spiritual sequel to 2007’s acclaimed Taare Zameen Par, the film promises a fresh emotional journey for audiences.
Poster Introduces Ten Debutants
The newly unveiled poster features Aamir Khan alongside ten debut actors: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.
The poster, with the tagline “Sabka apna apna normal,” hints at a heartfelt narrative similar in tone to Taare Zameen Par.
Sitaare Zameen Par completed its shooting in June last year. Genelia Deshmukh plays the female lead.
The movie is directed by RS Prasanna, known for directing Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and On A Quest, a biopic on Swami Chinmayananda Saraswathi.
Creative Team and Music
The screenplay is penned by Divy Nidhi Sharma. The film’s music is composed by the celebrated trio Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit serve as the producers. This project also marks Aamir Khan’s return to the big screen after his 2022 film Laal Singh Chaddha.
A Spiritual Sequel to a Cult Classic
Released in 2007, Taare Zameen Par was directed by Aamir himself. It told the story of Ishaan, an eight-year-old with dyslexia, played by Darsheel Safary.
Aamir portrayed Ishaan’s art teacher who helps him recognize his unique talents. The film became a box-office hit and is widely regarded as a milestone in Indian cinema.
The storyline of Sitaare Zameen Par remains under wraps, but the poster and promotional content suggest that the film will explore themes of inclusion, growth, and emotional connection.
First Poster Reveals Basketball Theme
In the first poster, Aamir appears serious, surrounded by the ten debutants. He rests his elbow on a basketball, suggesting the sport may play a central role in the narrative, just as art did in Taare Zameen Par.
The poster’s lively yet poignant tone hints at a comedy-drama that delivers a meaningful message.
Aamir Khan Describes His Role
During a recent visit to China, Aamir Khan shared more about the film’s theme and his character.
“Thematically, it is going ten steps ahead. It is about people who are differently abled. It is about love, friendship and life. Taare Zameen Par made you cry but this film will make you laugh. It’s a comedy but the theme is the same,” he said.
He also discussed his character, Gulshan, who is starkly different from the sensitive Nikumbh in the original film.
“My character’s name is Gulshan but his personality is exactly opposite to Nikumbh. He is very rude, politically incorrect and he insults everybody. He fights with his wife, mother. He is a basketball coach and he beats up his senior coach. He is a person with a lot of internal problems,” Aamir explained.
Adaptation of a Spanish Original
Aamir revealed that Sitaare Zameen Par is an Indian adaptation of the 2018 Spanish sports comedy Campeones, directed by Javier Fresser.
He added, “The story is about how he changes. How the ten people, some of whom have down syndrome, autism, different abilities teach him what it is to be a good human being.”
Strong Support Cast and Crew
The film will not only showcase Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh but also highlight the journeys of the ten newcomers, each bringing a unique presence to the screen.
RS Prasanna’s directorial expertise and the proven track record of the creative team heighten anticipation for the release.
As the release date approaches, the first look has successfully generated buzz. With powerful themes, fresh talent, and Aamir Khan’s comeback, Sitaare Zameen Par is shaping up to be a significant cinematic event in 2025.
