Renowned Punjabi actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla passed away on Friday morning, August 22, 2025, at a private hospital in Mohali after a brief illness. He was 65 years old.
A family friend, Bal Mukand Sharma, confirmed that Bhalla had been admitted to the hospital two days earlier due to deteriorating health. His last rites will be performed on Saturday, August 23, at the Balongi cremation ground in Mohali.

AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia called the news “extremely saddening.”
He wrote, “The news of the passing of Punjab’s famous comedian Jaswinder Bhalla Ji is extremely saddening. He brought smiles to the faces of millions with his art. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the family during this difficult time. Om Shanti.”
Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also shared his grief. “The stage of Punjabi laughter stands silent & empty today… Jaswinder Bhalla ji was a living symbol of Punjabi wit, humour and spirit. With his unmatched talent, he turned simplicity into laughter and made generations smile. Waheguru ji bless his noble soul with peace,” he wrote.

Before becoming a full-time actor, Bhalla had a distinguished academic career.
He completed his Master of Science at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, where he later joined as a faculty member. He served as professor and head of the Department of Extension Education until his retirement in 2020.
