Malayalam Actor Kalabhavan Navas Found Dead in Kochi Hotel at 51

Malayalam film actor and renowned mimicry artist Kalabhavan Navas was discovered dead in a hotel in Chottanikkara on Friday evening, according to police sources.

The 51-year-old artist was in the town for the shooting of a film. The tragic incident came to light when hotel staff, who were expecting him to check out, found him unresponsive in his room and notified authorities.

Death Confirmed at Hospital

Navas was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police suspect he died of cardiac arrest.

No suspicious items or signs were found in his room, confirming the possibility of natural causes behind his sudden death.

Post-Mortem Scheduled

As reported by The Hindu, a post-mortem was scheduled at Kalamassery’s Government Medical College Hospital on Saturday to determine the exact cause of death.

His body was kept at the SD Tata Hospital in Chottanikkara before being handed over to his family for final rites.

Part of ‘Prakambanam’ Film Shoot

Kalabhavan Navas was staying in the hotel as part of the filming schedule for Prakambanam, a Malayalam movie. He was expected to check out of his room on Friday evening.

When he failed to appear at the reception, hotel staff checked his room and found him unconscious. Authorities ruled out any foul play based on the condition of the room.

Tributes from Kerala Leaders and Industry

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolences over Navas’ passing. In a message, he acknowledged Navas’ contributions to Malayalam cinema as a mimicry artist, singer, and actor.

K. S. Prasad, a close friend and well-known mimicry artist, remembered introducing Navas to Fr. Abel of Cochin Kalabhavan, a pioneer in promoting mimicry art in Kerala. “We are yet to come to terms with his loss,” he said.

Leader of the Opposition V. D. Satheesan stated in a release that Navas played a vital role in popularizing mimicry in Kerala society. M. V. Govindan, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), remarked that Navas had captured the hearts of movie lovers across the state.

Kalabhavan Navas earned wide recognition for his work in Malayalam cinema. Starting his career in mimicry, he later transitioned into playback singing and acting.
