Ajay Devgn Heads to Scotland in ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, Set for July 25 Release
Ajay Devgn is all set to reprise his role in Son of Sardaar 2, the sequel to the 2012 comedy hit Son of Sardaar. The newly released trailer confirms that the film will hit theatres on July 25, 2025.
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the sequel relocates the action from Punjab to scenic Scotland, where a wedding serves as the backdrop for a comedy of errors.
The trailer opens with the tagline, “Will he survive Scotland?”, immediately setting the tone for a cultural clash-filled adventure. Ajay Devgn’s character Jassi finds himself entangled in humorous situations as he navigates unfamiliar surroundings with his usual flair.
New Faces and Familiar Charm
The sequel features Mrunal Thakur opposite Devgn, adding a fresh romantic dynamic.
The ensemble cast also includes Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Mukul Dev, Vindu Dara Singh, Neeru Bajwa, Dolly Ahluwalia, Chunky Panday, Kubbra Sait, Deepak Dobriyal, Roshni Walia, Sharat Saxena, and Sahil Mehta.
Notably, this film marks the final screen appearance of actor Mukul Dev, who passed away in May 2024.
In the trailer, Ravi Kishan delivers quirky dialogue as the protective father of the groom.
Meanwhile, Vindu Dara Singh contributes with witty one-liners, and Mukul Dev’s character brings back memories of his comedic role in the original, especially during a scene where he is teased for speaking fluent English.
Plot and Setting
The film follows Jassi and his love interest as they travel to Scotland to help Roshni Walia’s character with her wedding. Trouble begins when they encounter the groom’s father, played by Ravi Kishan, who arrives with a large group of bodyguards.
What follows is a series of humorous confrontations and misunderstandings, set against a cross-cultural backdrop.
The trailer, lasting two minutes and fifty seconds, includes nostalgic flashbacks from the first film and establishes that although the setting has changed, the chaos remains the same.
Behind the Scenes and Legacy of the Prequel
Son of Sardaar, released in 2012, grossed around ₹100 crore at the box office and competed with Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
The simultaneous release led to a dispute over screen distribution, resulting in Ajay Devgn filing a complaint with the Competition Commission of India against Yash Raj Films.
In a recent interview with The Lallantop, Kajol, Devgn’s wife, shared her thoughts on the controversy.
She said she felt “helpless” at the time and mentioned that both parties were firm in defending their positions, adding that time was needed to let the issue cool down.
Director’s Return to Hindi Cinema
Director Vijay Kumar Arora, known for Punjabi films like Godday Godday Chaa and Kali Jotta, makes his comeback to Hindi cinema with Son of Sardaar 2.
His direction promises to retain the original’s comic flavor while adding a fresh visual setting and new twists.
Trailer Highlights and Comic Appeal
The trailer is filled with high-energy scenes, humorous exchanges, and cultural jokes. Lines such as “Just Joking,” “Kadi Hass Bhi Liya Karo,” and a subtle jab at a neighboring country provide a strong comedic punch.
The trailer also teases emotional moments, especially with the inclusion of the late Mukul Dev.
Sharing the trailer, Ajay Devgn wrote, “Action! Emotions! Confusion ka bhandaar. JASSI is back, aur iss baar sab kuch double hai!” promising audiences double the fun this time around.
