Akshay Kumar and Director Amit Rai Begin Work on ‘OMG 3’ Script During Kerala Shoot

Following the success of OMG: Oh My God! and OMG 2, a third installment in the franchise is in the works. Both films have tackled major societal themes—religion and blind faith in the first, and sex education in the second—delivering impactful messages through courtroom drama and humor.

Akshay Kumar played important roles in both films, and now, the franchise is expected to expand with OMG 3.

Akshay Kumar and Amit Rai Discuss OMG 3 in Kerala

According to The Times of India, Akshay Kumar and OMG 2 director Amit Rai recently met in Kerala during the final schedule of Priyadarshan’s horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, which stars Wamiqa Gabbi.

During their time together in mid-May 2025, Amit Rai pitched multiple ideas for OMG 3 and held in-depth discussions with Akshay Kumar.

These sessions reportedly spanned several days. Rai is now working on the first draft of the script, and if all progresses well, the movie is expected to start filming in 2026.

What Will Be the Theme of OMG 3?

Each film in the OMG series has focused on a different social issue. The first addressed religion, while the second tackled sex education. Speculation is now rife about the subject matter of OMG 3.

It is anticipated that the new installment will follow suit and highlight another major social topic, blending it with the franchise’s signature courtroom comedy tone.

A Look Back at OMG and OMG 2

Released in 2012, OMG: Oh My God! was directed by Umesh Shukla and featured Paresh Rawal as an atheist shopkeeper who sues God after his shop is destroyed by an earthquake.

Akshay Kumar played a modern-day Krishna. The film was widely praised for questioning blind faith and the commercialization of religion.

A decade later, in 2023, OMG 2 hit theatres with a new cast and director. Pankaj Tripathi portrayed a devoted father advocating for his son’s right to sex education, while Akshay Kumar played a messenger of Lord Shiva.

Amit Rai directed the film, which used humor and courtroom drama to present its socially relevant message.

Akshay Kumar’s Current and Upcoming Projects

Akshay Kumar’s most recent release was Kesari Chapter 2, which also starred R Madhavan and Ananya Panday. He has a busy lineup ahead, including Housefull 5, Jolly LLB 3, Welcome 3, and the recently completed Bhooth Bangla.

The latter concluded with a song shoot in Kerala featuring Wamiqa Gabbi and was wrapped up over a three-day schedule.

Interestingly, Amit Rai joined Akshay during this shoot, which allowed the two to brainstorm ideas for OMG 3 extensively.

Source Reveals Details of OMG 3 Planning

A source close to the project told Pinkvilla, “Amit Rai had multiple ideas for OMG 3 (Oh My God 3), and he discussed all the plot points with Akshay Kumar throughout the stay.

The duo brainstormed on all the ideas and also discussed possible new routes that could be taken in OMG 3. The intent is to continue with the most loved franchise, and take the third part on floors in 2026.”

The source also mentioned that the brainstorming session between Akshay and Amit Rai went smoothly, and the next phase is for Amit Rai to finalize a solid script draft.

“Following the success of OMG and OMG 2, the stakes are high and the makers are keen to make a third part. It is a big responsibility, and hence, they are in no hurry to just rush through the process of OMG 3,” the source added.

Expected Timeline for OMG 3

The production timeline for OMG 3 depends largely on how soon the script is finalized. If all goes well, the movie is likely to begin shooting in the second half of 2026.

The makers are reportedly committed to maintaining the high standards set by the first two films and are approaching the development of the third with care.

Akshay Kumar’s Packed Film Schedule

Apart from OMG 3, Akshay Kumar has Housefull 5 releasing this year. In August, he is set to begin shooting for Priyadarshan’s next thriller, which will co-star Saif Ali Khan.

Meanwhile, his earlier release, Kesari Chapter 2, received attention for its ensemble cast and storyline.
