Dhadak 2 Trailer Unveils Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri’s Gritty, Heart-Wrenching Love Saga
The trailer for Dhadak 2 has been officially released, offering a glimpse into a story filled with love, heartbreak, and social commentary.
Featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in lead roles, the film takes audiences on an emotional ride as it tackles caste discrimination and family expectations.
The trailer, shared by Dharma Productions on July 11, introduces Neelesh (Siddhant) and Vidhi (Triptii), two college students whose growing bond turns into love, only to be met with harsh societal resistance due to their caste differences.
Dharma Productions shared on social media, “It all begins with ek धड़क! #Dhadak2 trailer out now. Releasing in cinemas on 1st August.” Directed and written by Shazia Iqbal, the film is said to be a remake of the critically acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018).
More Hard-Hitting Than Its Predecessor
While the original Dhadak (2018), starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, addressed a similar theme, the sequel is expected to be a more intense and grounded portrayal of caste-based conflict.
Produced by Karan Johar under Dharma Productions, Dhadak 2 will be released in theatres on August 1, 2025, after experiencing multiple delays.
Karan Johar, speaking at the trailer launch, mentioned that the delay was due to revisions and clearance processes, but said the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) understood the film’s intent.
Karan Johar Reflects on Release Challenges
Addressing the delay, Karan said the censor board was “very understanding and compassionate” regarding the film’s sensitive subject.
“I’ve never ever been worried about repercussions because that restricts you as an artist,” he said. Quoting a line from the film, he added, “‘If you’ve a choice then fight’, and the best way to point a put across is through art.”
Karan further noted that both the filmmakers and the censor board aimed to handle the topic sensitively.
“We took a while to get to the cinema halls, but even the censor board was very understanding… They were protecting the sensitivity, and we were protecting the sensitivity.”
A Story Rooted in Harsh Realities
According to Johar, Dhadak 2 is a story that “makes you wake up and think.”
He explained that caste-based discrimination is not confined to small towns but is prevalent in many parts of the country. “It is a true reality of our times, no matter where you live,” he said.
Originally scheduled for a November 2024 release, the film faced delays but is now set for an August 2025 premiere. The storyline centers on two lovers from different castes and the societal challenges that threaten their bond.
Actors Embrace Their Characters
Triptii Dimri shared that playing Vidhi was both challenging and fulfilling. Known for her roles in Laila Majnu, Bulbbul, Qala, and Animal, she said, “I am very proud of this film. I am very happy that I am a part of it… It was a bit challenging to play Vidhi. But I have always wanted to play those characters that challenge me as an actor.”
Siddhant Chaturvedi, who has previously portrayed characters from urban backgrounds in films like Gully Boy, Gehraiyaan, and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, revealed that he longed to play a small-town character.
“Because I come from a small town, I didn’t get those types of stories… When Karan sir called me and said there is a story, I said I will do it instantly.”
He added, “By default, I tend to choose something which is a little challenging… And if I talk about a small town, I have lived that life. So somewhere I am connected to it.”
An Important Shift for Dharma Productions
Karan Johar mentioned that while Dharma Productions is traditionally associated with a certain type of cinema, they have consistently attempted to introduce meaningful stories.
“We’ve used up themes and presented them with utmost sensitivity and that was also the need of the hour… Dhadak 2 is a mainstream film, an intense love story but it’s saying something.”
He emphasized that storytellers have a responsibility to address real issues through cinema, describing Dhadak 2 as a film that balances emotional storytelling with pressing societal themes.
Release and Expectations
Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal and produced by Karan Johar, is set to release on August 1, 2025.
With its socially relevant theme, a compelling new pairing, and the backing of Dharma Productions, the film is generating considerable anticipation.
The film’s narrative promises not just an emotional love story but a powerful commentary on caste-based oppression, set against the backdrop of contemporary India.
