Pakistani Actress Humaira Asghar Ali Found Dead in Karachi Apartment; Body Recovered in Decomposed State
Pakistani actor-model Humaira Asghar Ali, aged 32, was found dead in her apartment located in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase VI on Tuesday, July 8.
The discovery was made after a court-appointed bailiff, accompanied by police officers, broke into her locked fourth-floor apartment to execute an eviction order over unpaid rent. Her body was found in a severely decomposed state.
Death Estimated in Late 2024
Investigators believe Humaira passed away in late 2024. DIG South Asad Raza said, “The expiry dates of food and drinks in the refrigerator are from September 2024. The last outgoing and incoming activity on her phone also dates back to October 2024.”
Both SIM cards in her phone have been inactive since then, and the electricity was disconnected due to non-payment.
Clues from Digital and Physical Evidence
The police revealed that the last message on her phone was from a ride-hailing app, while the last seen WhatsApp activity occurred on October 7, 2024.
A message sent by her stylist on October 20 went unread. Her final Instagram post was made on September 30. Since the adjacent apartment was unoccupied, no foul smell was reported by neighbors.
Postmortem and Investigation Ongoing
Humaira’s body was transferred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed confirmed the body was in an advanced state of decomposition.
The cause of death could not be determined from the preliminary postmortem, and forensic and toxicology reports are awaited. Although no signs of forced entry were found, foul play has not been ruled out.
Family Refuses to Claim Body
A more distressing development came when Humaira’s father, Dr Asghar Ali, a retired army doctor, declined to take custody of her body. “Her father declined to take custody,” DIG Asad said.
Her brother also refused. Eventually, her brother-in-law agreed to travel from Lahore to claim her remains. If he fails to do so, her body will be handed over to the Sindh Culture Department, which has offered to handle her funeral.
An Isolated Life Behind the Glamour
Humaira had a significant presence on TikTok and Instagram, often showcasing a glamorous lifestyle. Yet, in reality, she had become increasingly isolated.
According to reports, she lived alone for the past seven years and was rarely seen in public except for work.
Support from Industry and Government
Following the family’s refusal, the Sindh Culture Department and members of the entertainment industry stepped forward.
Actors like Yashma Gill and Sonya Hussyn expressed their grief and offered support for her burial. Authorities will wait for final confirmation from her family before proceeding.
Career and Recognition
Originally from Lahore, Humaira began her acting career in 2015. She appeared in television shows like ‘Just Married’, ‘Ehsaan Faramosh’, ‘Guru’, and ‘Chal Dil Mere’, and films such as ‘Jalaibee’ (2015) and ‘Love Vaccine’ (2021).
Her popularity surged in 2022 after she joined the reality show ‘Tamasha Ghar’ on ARY Digital. In 2023, she was honoured with the Best Emerging Talent & Rising Star award at the National Woman Leadership Awards.
Creative Talents and Social Media Presence
Humaira’s Instagram bio described her as an actor, theatre artist, sculptor, painter, and fitness lover. She had over 700,000 followers. Her final post was on September 30, 2024, which further aligns with the estimated time of her death.
Timeline of Events Leading to Discovery
According to Geo News, neighbours alerted police around 3 am on July 8 due to a foul smell.
The Gizri police found her door locked from the inside. The balcony door was also locked, leading police to initially rule out external interference.
Awaiting Final Confirmation
As this is a developing story, officials continue their efforts to trace remaining family members and await forensic reports to determine the cause of death. If unclaimed, Humaira will be declared heirless, and the state will conduct her burial.
