Matt Reeves Completes Script for The Batman: Part II Starring Robert Pattinson
After months of speculation and anticipation, ‘The Batman: Part II’ has finally taken a significant step forward with the completion of its script.
Director Matt Reeves shared the update on social media, posting a black-and-white image of the script’s cover with the iconic bat symbol.
Though the image was intentionally blurred, the title ‘The Batman: Part II’ could be seen clearly. In the background, Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin were spotted sitting together.
The caption accompanying the post read, “Partners in Crime (Fighters),” hinting at the close collaboration between the two writers. Mattson Tomlin later confirmed the script’s completion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Long-Awaited Progress After Repeated Delays
The news arrives just in time as DC fans had been growing impatient, eager for updates on the film’s progress. ‘The Batman: Part II’ is scheduled to release in October 2027, over five years after the original film hit theatres in 2022.
The first instalment, starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, was a global success, grossing over $772 million at the worldwide box office.
The sequel was announced in April 2022, but delays in production had kept fans waiting for any solid development.
James Gunn Addresses Fan Frustration
DC Studios co-chair James Gunn recently addressed the rising frustration among fans regarding the sequel’s delay.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn said, “Listen, we’re supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. Matt’s excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I’m totally excited about it.”
Gunn also defended Reeves against the online pressure, saying, “People should get off Matt’s nuts because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That’s just the way it is.
He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.”
Reeves Unaffected by Online Noise
Gunn further explained that Matt Reeves was not paying much attention to the constant chatter online. “He’s got a lot of other things happening, so I don’t think he lets it affect him. He’s fine,” Gunn said.
However, Gunn admitted he was annoyed by the growing sense of entitlement among fans.
“I am irritated by people. I mean, it’s just that thing people don’t need to be entitled about. It’s going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. And Matt’s not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.”
Robert Pattinson Jokes About Playing Batman
Meanwhile, actor Robert Pattinson, who will return as Gotham’s brooding vigilante, shared his own lighthearted take on the delays.
In a previous interview, he joked, “I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f*****g old Batman by the sequel.”
Script Completion Brings Relief to Fans
The confirmation of the script’s completion comes as a relief to fans who have been waiting for concrete updates on the much-anticipated sequel.
The first ‘The Batman’ film introduced a darker, more grounded take on the character, with Robert Pattinson’s portrayal receiving widespread praise.
The sequel, now set for an October 1, 2027 release, will continue the story of the caped crusader under the direction of Matt Reeves, who has been given full creative freedom to develop the film at his own pace.
DC Studios Prepares for a New Era
The news of the completed script comes just weeks before the debut of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe with ‘Superman.’
While the new DC slate is being rolled out, Gunn has made it clear that Reeves’ Batman universe will remain a separate entity, giving the director space to tell his version of the Dark Knight’s story.
As fans await further announcements regarding casting, production schedules, and potential new characters, the completed script marks a crucial milestone for ‘The Batman: Part II,’ bringing the project one step closer to the big screen.
