Rapper Badshah Fined: Gurugram Police Penalize Artist for Traffic Violation After Concert
Bollywood rapper-singer Badshah has been fined by the Gurugram Traffic Police for allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road.
The incident took place on December 15, following his attendance at a concert by Punjabi singer Karan Aujla in Sector 68.
Traffic Violation and Penalty
The traffic police imposed a penalty of Rs 15,500 and acquired CCTV footage to identify other vehicles involved in Badshah’s convoy.
Though the vehicle in question was not registered under Badshah’s name, the rapper was reportedly present in the car.
Commenting on the matter, DCP Traffic Virendra Vij stated, “Yes, we issued a fine for wrong-side driving involving Badshah’s vehicle. While the car is not registered in his name, Badshah was personally present in it.”
Incident Details
The incident occurred after Karan Aujla’s concert at Gurugram’s Airia Mall, which featured special appearances by artistes including Badshah, Varun Dhawan, and Krsna.
Reports claimed that Badshah’s convoy, including a Mahindra Thar, took an illegal route, sparking public outrage. The Thar, allegedly part of a three-vehicle convoy, violated traffic laws, leading to the hefty fine.
Virender Vij, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), clarified, “The Thar was registered in the name of Dipender Hooda of Panipat, who was driving it.
An online fine of Rs 15,500 was imposed under three sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including dangerous and wrong-side driving.”
Badshah’s Reaction
Amid growing attention on social media, Badshah took to Instagram Stories to deny the allegations.
In his post, he wrote, “Bhai, Thar toh hai bhi nai mere pass, na mai drive kar raha tha us din (Brother, I don’t own a Thar, nor was I driving that day). I was being driven in a white Vellfire, and we always drive responsibly.” He accompanied the post with Manna Dey’s classic song, Ae Bhai Zara Dekh Ke Chalo.
Badshah’s team also issued an official statement dismissing the claims. “We are issuing this statement to address recent defamatory reports and false accusations regarding a traffic incident involving Badshah following the Karan Aujla concert on December 15th, 2024, in the Delhi NCR region. These reports allege that Badshah was involved in a traffic violation, specifically driving on the wrong side of the road. We want to unequivocally state that this allegation is completely false,” the statement read.
Official Clarifications
The statement further elaborated, “On the night of the concert, Badshah was a passenger in a white Toyota Vellfire (Registration Number HR 55 AU 3333), provided by Bakshi Transport Service Private Limited and driven by a licensed professional driver.
Transportation arrangements included a Toyota Vellfire and three Toyota Innova Crystas for the team’s safe and efficient transport. Badshah was not operating any of the above-mentioned vehicles at any point during the alleged incident.”
The team emphasized that “no fines were issued to any vehicles associated with Badshah or his team that evening.”
Police Action and Warnings
According to police officials, the Gurugram Traffic Police issued a challan of Rs 15,500 for wrong-side driving, rash driving, and playing loud music.
A viral video showed three cars driving on the wrong side to reach Airia Mall, sparking the investigation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Virender Vij, confirmed, “During the investigation, three vehicles were found travelling on the wrong side of the road. Rapper Badshah was seen getting down from one of the cars, which has been challaned as per the rules under the Motor Vehicles Act. A search is ongoing to identify the other two cars, and action will be taken accordingly.”
