Sara Arjun to Star Opposite Ranveer Singh in Dhurandhar, Age Gap Sparks Debate

She has been a familiar face on television and film screens since childhood. Now at 20, Sara Arjun is stepping into the spotlight as the female lead opposite Ranveer Singh in Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar.

The first look of Dhurandhar was unveiled on July 6, coinciding with Ranveer Singh’s 40th birthday.

Soon after, social media was flooded with discussions, not just about the film’s action-packed visuals, but also about the new heroine paired opposite Singh in this espionage thriller inspired by real events.

Who is Sara Arjun?

Sara Arjun is the daughter of actor Raj Arjun, known for his roles in films like Secret Superstar, Thalaivii, Love Hostel, and Black Friday. Sara began her career appearing in advertisements, including one for McDonald’s, before moving to films.

In 2011, she made her Hindi film debut in 404, followed by her Tamil cinema debut the same year with Deiva Thirumagal, directed by AL Vijay.

At just six years old, she played the daughter of a mentally challenged man portrayed by Tamil star Vikram, a role that earned her critical acclaim.

AL Vijay later cast her in Saivam (2014), a family drama featuring veteran actor Nassar. She also starred in its Telugu remake, Dagudumootha Dandakor, in 2015.

Sara appeared in Bollywood films such as Ek Thi Daayan (2013), Jai Ho (2014), and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (2019), where she played the younger version of Sonam Kapoor’s character.

She gained further recognition portraying young Nandini, the younger version of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s character, in Mani Ratnam’s two-part epic Ponniyin Selvan (2022-2023).

By 2023, Sara had become the highest-paid child actor in India, with reported earnings of Rs 10 crore.

Her recent projects include the teen musical drama Magic (2024) by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Malayalam film Ann Maria Kalippilaanu (2016), and Saand Ki Aankh (2019).

Sara Arjun’s Role in Dhurandhar

In the first look of Dhurandhar, Sara appears as the lone female lead in a film dominated by male stars, including R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Akshaye Khanna.

Details about her role are still under wraps, leaving audiences curious about how significant her character is to the story.

Presented by Jio Studios and produced by B62 Studios, Dhurandhar is written, directed, and produced by Aditya Dhar, with Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar also producing. The film is slated for a theatrical release on December 5, 2025.

The film’s teaser, packed with action and intrigue, has been compared to Bollywood hits like Pathaan and Animal. Ranveer Singh is seen in a rugged avatar, engaging in intense action sequences.

The project reportedly draws inspiration from the life of Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor, focusing on covert operations in enemy territory.

Controversy Over Age Gap

The film has triggered widespread debate due to the 20-year age difference between Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun.

Social media users questioned the casting choice, with some expressing concern over the significant age gap in a romantic pairing.

One user remarked, “Can you imagine a 40-year-old actor like Ranveer Singh romancing a 20-year-old girl like Sara Arjun in Dhurandhar? This only happens in Bollywood.” Others speculated that Sara might have been just 18 when the film was shot.

While the pairing has sparked discussion, the makers of Dhurandhar and the actors have yet to comment on the controversy.

Some believe that considering the film’s espionage-driven plot, there could be a valid narrative reason for the casting, which will be revealed once the film hits screens.

Sara Arjun’s Journey from Child Artist to Leading Lady

Sara began her career as a child artist, featuring in multiple commercials before transitioning to films. Her breakout role in Deiva Thirumagal showcased her acting talent at a young age.

Over the years, she has appeared in Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam films, gradually building her portfolio.

Her performances in films like Saivam, Ponniyin Selvan, and Saand Ki Aankh highlighted her ability to take on mature and emotionally demanding roles.

With Dhurandhar, she takes a significant step into adult lead roles, marking a new chapter in her acting career.

Final Thoughts

As Dhurandhar gears up for its grand release in December, the focus remains on the film’s high-stakes narrative and action-packed sequences.

Whether the controversy over the age gap fades or continues will depend on how audiences receive the film and its characters once it hits theatres.
