Sonakshi Sinha Slams Mukesh Khanna Over Ramayana Comment: ‘Stop the Hypocrisy
Actor Mukesh Khanna recently reignited controversy by commenting on actor Sonakshi Sinha’s inability to answer a question about the Ramayana during her appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 11 in 2019.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Mukesh blamed Sonakshi’s father, Shatrughan Sinha, for her lack of knowledge about the epic.
He stated, “People were angry that Sonakshi didn’t know this, but I would say it’s not her fault—it’s her father’s fault. Why didn’t they teach their children this? Why did they become so modern?”
Sonakshi Sinha’s Response
Sonakshi took to Instagram Stories to respond to Mukesh Khanna’s statements, defending her father and calling out what she perceived as hypocrisy.
She began her note with, “Dear Sir, Mukesh Khanna ji… I recently read a statement you made saying that it’s my father’s fault I did not answer a question about the Ramayana correctly on a show I attended many years back.”
She pointed out that she was not the only person on the hot seat who didn’t know the answer but that Mukesh had chosen to single her out.
“Firstly, let me remind you there were two women on the hot seat that day who did not know the answer to the same question, but you chose to keep taking my name, and only my name, for reasons which are quite obvious,” she wrote.
Forgive and Forget: A Lesson From Ramayana
Sonakshi acknowledged that she had “blanked out” on the show, describing it as a human tendency. However, she reminded Mukesh of the lessons of forgiveness taught by Lord Ram.
“If Lord Ram can forgive Manthara, if he can forgive Kaikeyi, if he can even forgive Ravan after the great battle was done, surely you can let go of this extremely small thing in comparison,” she wrote.
“Not that I need your forgiveness. But yes, I definitely need you to forget and stop bringing up the same incident time and again to be back in the news at the expense of me and my family.”
Defending Her Father’s Values
Sonakshi concluded her note by defending the values her father, Shatrughan Sinha, instilled in her.
She stated, “The next time you decide to say anything about the values my father has instilled in me, please remember it’s because of those values that I have only said what I said, very respectfully, after you decided to make some distasteful statements about my upbringing. I wish you well, thanks and regards.”
The 2019 KBC Incident
The incident Mukesh referred to occurred during Sonakshi’s participation in KBC 11. She was asked a question about the Ramayana: for whom Hanuman brought the Sanjeevani Booti.
Unable to answer, she became the subject of jokes and criticism. Amitabh Bachchan, the host, playfully teased her about her ignorance of the epic. The incident sparked a debate about modernity and cultural knowledge.
Mukesh Khanna’s View on Modern Values
In his recent interview, Mukesh Khanna elaborated on the need for today’s generation to connect with their cultural roots. While discussing his iconic role as Shaktimaan, he emphasized the importance of guiding the youth toward understanding their history.
Without naming Sonakshi initially, he hinted at her lack of knowledge about the Ramayana. When asked directly, he replied, “Luv Kush is the name of their bungalow.
People got angry, ‘She doesn’t know.’ I said it’s not Sonakshi’s fault; it’s her father’s fault. Why did you not tell your kids? Why did you let them be so modern?”
