SS Rajamouli Recalls Jr NTR’s Intense ‘Possessed’ Performance in RRR’s Komuram Bheemudo Song Shoot

Jr NTR’s portrayal of Komaram Bheem in RRR was met with widespread acclaim, particularly for his powerful performance in the emotionally intense “Komuram Bheemudo” song.

Alongside Ram Charan, Jr NTR brought his character to life, earning him recognition and numerous accolades for his compelling screen presence.

In a recent event celebrating the Netflix documentary RRR: Behind and Beyond in Japan, filmmaker SS Rajamouli shared his thoughts on the making of this iconic sequence.

SS Rajamouli’s Admiration for Jr NTR’s Intensity

During the event, Rajamouli reflected on the challenges and rewards of filming the “Komuram Bheemudo” song.

He explained how the shoot was seamless due to Jr NTR’s intensity, describing his performance as exceptional.

“Shooting the song was easy because Tarak (Jr NTR) looked like a man who is possessed,” Rajamouli said.

He went on to praise Jr NTR’s ability to portray the raw emotion required for the scene, adding, “We all know that he’s a fantastic actor but in this particular song, he was at a different level. Every expression he gave — including the minutest muscle movement on his forehead or the jaw — everything was perfect. I just had to place the camera and play the song, and it would come out beautifully.”

Rajamouli’s words underscore the meticulous attention to detail that went into capturing Jr NTR’s performance, which many fans and critics believe elevated the sequence to one of the most memorable moments in the film.

Global Success of RRR and Jr NTR’s Recognition

RRR (Rise Roar Revolt), which was released in 2022, gained international success, particularly after its availability on Netflix.

The film seamlessly blended high-action sequences, stunning visuals, and emotionally compelling storytelling, leaving a significant mark on both Indian and global audiences.

Jr NTR’s portrayal of Komaram Bheem became one of the standout elements of the film, with his intense commitment to the role resonating strongly with viewers worldwide.

One of the film’s major achievements came at the 95th Academy Awards (Oscars), where its song Naatu Naatu won the award for Best Original Song.

This win marked a historic moment for Indian cinema, as it was the first song from an Indian film to win in that category. The film also garnered multiple awards at the Golden Globes 2023, further cementing its place in cinematic history.

Acknowledging the Choreography of the Song

At the Japanese event, SS Rajamouli also took the time to commend the work of Prem Rakshit, the choreographer behind the Komuram Bheemudo sequence.

He credited Rakshit for his creative direction, especially in how the physicality of the sequence was handled. “I would give a lot of credit to Prem Rakshit, the choreographer of the sequence. He choreographed the way he should be tied, how he should be hung,” Rajamouli said, highlighting Rakshit’s pivotal role in bringing the emotional power of the scene to life.

The choreography, paired with Jr NTR’s performance, created a sequence that is remembered for its gripping intensity.

Jr NTR’s Bollywood Debut in War 2

Jr NTR’s star continues to rise, and he is now set to make his much-anticipated Bollywood debut with War 2. The film, part of the War franchise, will see Jr NTR alongside Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani in key roles.

Promising high-octane action and a fresh avatar for the actor, War 2 is one of the most awaited pan-India releases of 2025. It is expected to clash with Rajinikanth’s Coolie on August 14, adding to the excitement surrounding the film.

The actor’s foray into Bollywood has generated significant buzz, and expectations are high for his performance in this action-packed thriller.

Fans are eagerly anticipating how Jr NTR’s versatility will translate into this new genre and setting.

SS Rajamouli’s Future Projects

On the other hand, SS Rajamouli has been busy with the production of SSMB29, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Set against the backdrop of Kashi, the untitled project is slated for release sometime in 2027. Rajamouli’s upcoming film is expected to be another high-budget epic, following the immense success of Baahubali and RRR.

As both Jr NTR and SS Rajamouli continue to push boundaries in Indian cinema, their collaboration remains one of the most powerful in the industry.

Fans can look forward to more stunning performances and groundbreaking films from these two cinematic giants in the years to come.
