Influencer Tanner Martin Shares News of His Own Passing in Emotional Final Video

Tanner Martin, a 30-year-old influencer from Utah, passed away after a five-year fight with colon cancer. In a heartfelt gesture, Martin shared the news of his death through a pre-recorded video, which was posted on his Instagram account on June 25. The announcement came shortly after he and his wife, Shay Wright, celebrated the arrival of their first child, a daughter named AmyLou.

Tanner Martin’s Final Message

Speaking directly to his followers, Martin began his video with, “Hey, it’s me, Tanner. If you’re watching this, I am dead.” His message, filled with love, humour, and honesty, has left thousands of followers emotional and inspired by his courage in facing terminal illness.

“I had a heck of a life,” he shared, explaining that he recorded the message to express his final thoughts and to ease the burden on his wife during the difficult days ahead. “Life was awesome. I really enjoyed it while I was here… Hopefully there’s something after this, and I’m excited to meet those people,” he added.

Martin described death as a “new adventure” and expressed gratitude for the love and support he received from his family, friends, and followers. “Thank you for all your support and for helping to make the last years of my life fun, enjoyable, and comfortable,” he said.

A Message of Love and Gratitude

In another part of the video, Martin reflected on his life, his illness, and his family. He spoke of his excitement to meet his newborn daughter and his hopes for his loved ones. His wife, Shay, captioned the video with a touching tribute, writing, “May the force be with you from our angel force ghost.”

Who Was Tanner Martin?

Martin gained widespread attention by documenting his cancer journey on social media, blending humour and honesty in a way that resonated with thousands. In February 2023, he revealed in an interview with People magazine that his cancer was no longer curable and that doctors had given him a life expectancy of two to five years.

His openness about his illness, along with his positive spirit, made him an inspiration to many. A GoFundMe page launched in his memory describes him as “a loving husband, a proud father, and a beautiful soul who touched the lives of so many with his courage and humour, even in the face of terminal illness.” The campaign also revealed that Martin did not have life insurance and had been focused on securing a future for his wife and daughter, affectionately nicknamed “Jiaozi.”

His Last Wish: Support for His Family

In a second video shared after his passing, Martin, wrapped in blankets beside his newborn daughter, made one final request. He asked for contributions to a GoFundMe campaign to support his wife and child. With humour typical of his online persona, he joked, “For the price of a McChicken you could fund my AmyLou’s legacy fund.”

The GoFundMe page mentions that the funds will help provide a home for Shay and AmyLou. “A space to grow, to heal, and to remember Tanner… a place that’s truly their own,” the page reads. Within a day, the campaign raised over $580,000.

Remembering Tanner Martin

In April 2024, Martin and his wife announced the birth of their daughter, AmyLou. They had shared that they planned the pregnancy when it seemed like Martin’s treatment was working, though that hope was later shattered. Still, Martin’s joy at meeting his daughter was evident in his final posts.

Social media has been flooded with tributes following his death. “I am so glad Tanner was able to meet AmyLou and have Father’s Day with her,” one user commented. Another wrote, “Oh Tanner… I’m so glad he did this for you, Shay. It’s beautiful. Sending prayers to you and your little girl. Heaven just gained the best angel.”

Many expressed sorrow and admiration for his strength, calling him an inspiration for his positive outlook even in the face of terminal illness.
