Tom Holland Begins Filming ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ in Glasgow
Spider-Man fans received a pleasant surprise on Saturday when Sony Pictures dropped a teaser for its upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The short clip featured Tom Holland returning in a completely new suit, asking viewers, “Are you ready?”
A Glimpse of the New Suit
The 22-second teaser begins with Tom Holland wearing a redesigned Spider-Man suit as large doors open to let in bright light. Holland steps into the frame, looking energised in the updated costume.
The suit displays a larger Spider logo compared to the designs seen in Homecoming (2017) and No Way Home (2021). It features bolder colours, raised black lining, and more defined spider webbing.
Fans React with Enthusiasm
Fans responded with excitement across social media. One user commented, “Brand New Day might just be the cleanest Spidey suit yet. I can’t stop staring.”
Another wrote, “I think this is the best one so far.” One added, “I love the Homecoming suit, but this one looks so cool, though. Can the film come sooner?”
Plot Still Under Wraps
While the fourth instalment’s storyline remains unrevealed, the release date is confirmed for July 31, 2026.
The third movie in the series, released in 2021, concluded with Peter Parker choosing to erase his identity from the world after breaking open the multiverse.
Insights from CinemaCon
Director Destin Daniel Cretton spoke at CinemaCon earlier this year, offering a glimpse into the film’s creative process.
“I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We’re all just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before,” he said.
Returning and New Cast Members
Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are set to reprise their roles as MJ and Ned, respectively. Sadie Sink also joins the cast, although her role remains undisclosed.
On August 1, also celebrated as National Spider-Man Day, Holland teased the new suit briefly before the full reveal the following morning.
In the video, Holland emerges from the shadows wearing the redesigned suit, which mirrors the classic comic-book version more closely than previous film versions.
The suit includes brighter red and blue tones and a noticeably larger spider insignia.
A Continuation from No Way Home
In No Way Home, Spider-Man’s identity was exposed to the public by Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. To undo this, Peter Parker asks Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, to cast a spell making everyone forget who he is.
However, this causes unintended consequences and merges other Spider-Men and their villains into the MCU.
The three Spider-Men eventually defeat the antagonists, but Peter sacrifices his relationships as Doctor Strange completes the spell. Aunt May dies in a tragic accident, and MJ and Ned forget Peter entirely.
Comic Origins of “Brand New Day”
The title Brand New Day is inspired by a comic storyline in which Spider-Man makes a deal with Mephisto to make the world forget his identity and to save Aunt May. The deal also ends his marriage to MJ and resets his life.
Expanded Universe and MCU Crossovers
Director Destin Daniel Cretton leads this project, with Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas joining the MCU. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, recently seen in Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again, will also appear, along with Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk.
Although not confirmed officially, Ruffalo is reportedly in talks to join the cast. If finalised, his character would continue the tradition of mentor figures in the Spider-Man franchise, following Tony Stark in Homecoming, Nick Fury in Far From Home, and Doctor Strange in No Way Home.
Behind-the-Scenes Team and First Look
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers return as screenwriters. Ruffalo’s Hulk, who hasn’t headlined a solo film, had significant roles in Thor: Ragnarok and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Sony and Marvel initially teased Holland’s new suit with a nine-second clip on National Spider-Man Day. The caption read, “something brand new is coming.” The full teaser was released the next day.
Release Date and Final Notes
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theatres on July 31, 2026. The Hollywood Reporter first reported Ruffalo’s casting. Sony and Marvel have not commented. Ruffalo is represented by UTA and Lighthouse Management.
