Rajnath Singh Arrives in Lucknow for Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Birth Centenary Celebrations

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Lucknow to participate in the centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The three-day event included tributes, cultural programs, and reflections on Vajpayee’s enduring contributions to Indian politics and democracy.

Grand Welcome in Lucknow

Singh received a warm welcome at Lucknow airport from Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, BJP General Secretary Sanjay Rai, and other party leaders, including Kamlesh Mishra, Anand Dwivedi, and Sushma Kharakwal.

Singh then proceeded to his residence on Kalidas Marg, where he met members of social organizations and BJP workers.

During his interactions, he congratulated Praveen Garg on being elected General Secretary of the Asia Vovinam Federation.

On December 25, Singh will honor Vajpayee’s legacy by participating in “Good Governance Day” at Lok Bhavan and offering floral tributes to the former Prime Minister.

Inauguration of Atal Yuva Mahakumbh

On December 24, Singh inaugurated the “Atal Yuva Mahakumbh” at KD Singh Babu Stadium, marking the beginning of the celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, Singh paid homage to Vajpayee, calling him a guiding light for the nation. He said, “The sun that rose on the political horizon of India on 25th December 1924 has not set even today.”

Singh’s speech emphasized Vajpayee’s charisma and achievements, which continue to inspire people worldwide. The event also featured cultural programs and tableaux, highlighting key moments from Vajpayee’s life.

Singh praised the performances, saying they were “truly inspiring” and urged the youth to follow Vajpayee’s ideals of unity and progress.

Anecdotes Reflecting Vajpayee’s Wit

Singh shared personal memories of his association with Vajpayee, including a notable incident from Vajpayee’s visit to Pakistan in 1999. A female journalist jokingly proposed marriage, asking for Kashmir as dowry.

Vajpayee responded with his signature wit, “I’m ready if you bring all of Pakistan as dowry.” This anecdote showcased Vajpayee’s sharp intellect and humor.

Another incident recalled Vajpayee’s response to a comment about his firmness. When someone remarked that he lacked rigidity, Vajpayee replied, “My name is Atal, which means ‘firm’ in Hindi.”

These anecdotes reflected Vajpayee’s remarkable personality, which combined humor with strength and resolve.

Leadership and Democratic Values

Singh spoke about Vajpayee’s pivotal moments in politics, particularly the fall of his government by a single vote in 1999. Despite the setback, Vajpayee remained committed to democratic principles.

In his memorable speech, he said, “Governments will come and go, parties will form and disband, but this nation and its democracy must remain eternal.”

Singh emphasized how Vajpayee’s leadership style garnered admiration worldwide. “Lucknow held a special place in Atal ji’s heart, and the people here understood him deeply,” he noted.

Singh expressed gratitude for having worked alongside Vajpayee, describing him as a mentor and guide.

Uttar Pradesh’s Progress Under Yogi Adityanath

During the event, Singh praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s efforts in realizing Vajpayee’s vision of a prosperous state. “Today, Uttar Pradesh stands ahead of other states on several development parameters,” he said, crediting Adityanath’s leadership for the state’s transformation.

Singh highlighted the alignment between Adityanath’s initiatives and Vajpayee’s dream of a progressive Uttar Pradesh. He called for collective efforts to sustain the momentum of development.

A Fitting Tribute to a Beloved Leader

Vajpayee, who represented Lucknow in Parliament for five terms, shared a special bond with the city. Singh, now representing Lucknow, emphasized the deep connection Vajpayee had with its people.

The Atal Yuva Mahakumbh, themed “Qadam Mila Kar Chalna Hoga” (We Shall March Together), aimed to inspire unity and collaboration.

The event included debates, art and essay competitions, and cultural performances by school bands, all designed to celebrate Vajpayee’s legacy.

Singh concluded by urging the youth to draw inspiration from Vajpayee’s life and principles, which remain a beacon of guidance for the nation. “Atal ji’s contributions and ideals continue to guide us towards a stronger, united India,” he said.
