Himanta Biswa Sarma Repeats ISI Allegation Against Gaurav Gogoi, Vows to Resign if Proven False

Himanta Biswa Sarma Repeats ISI Allegation Against Gaurav Gogoi, Vows to Resign if Proven False

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday again accused Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi of having ties with Pakistan.

He claimed Gogoi had travelled to the neighbouring country at the invitation of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s spy agency. Sarma added that he would step down from his post if his statements turned out to be untrue.

“Gaurav Gogoi had gone to Pakistan on the invitation of ISI, and after returning had also opposed the purchase of Rafale,” Sarma asserted.

Comparison with Recent Spy Case

Referring to the recent arrest of a Haryana-based YouTuber accused of spying for Pakistan, Sarma said, “The crime of this Jyoti Malhotra and all is nothing if you compare. If this is not spying then what is? Then he came back and opposed Rafale.”

The Assam CM insisted he would resign if his claim was found to be incorrect. “If even a single word of mine is proved wrong, I will resign from the post of Chief Minister,” he added.

Previous Allegations Against Gogoi

Earlier, Sarma had alleged that Gogoi’s Pakistan visit was to undergo training and not for tourism or academic purposes.

“Gaurav Gogoi had gone to Pakistan at the invitation of ISI. For the first time, I want to say that he went to Pakistan at the invitation of ISI. We have that document.

He went there to receive training. Gaurav Gogoi went there after receiving the letter from the Pakistan Home Department. It is a serious matter. After this, more considerable action will be taken,” Sarma was quoted by ANI.

He further claimed that Gogoi’s wife had “good relations” with the Pakistan Army and that she was “drawing a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while working in India.”

He said Gogoi stayed in Pakistan for 15 days without notifying authorities and that evidence will be made public by September 10.

Gogoi Dismisses Allegations as Baseless

Gaurav Gogoi has firmly denied all allegations made by the Chief Minister. The Congress MP called the accusations “nonsense” and questioned Sarma’s mental health.

“99% of what the Chief Minister has been saying is nonsense,” Gogoi wrote on X.

“I am worried about the health of the chief minister of Assam. For some reason, best known to him, I have been on his radar since my entry into Assam. He has made many baseless remarks about me in the past 13 years. The most recent one borders on insanity and the absurd,” Gogoi added.

‘Let Him Rest After 2026,’ Says Gogoi

The Congress leader also commented on Sarma’s state of mind, saying, “It is often said that when there is something bothering at home, it reflects in the mental state of the person.”

He continued, “We will ensure that after 2026 he gets some rest. The script that the chief minister is following is worse than a B-grade film,” alleging that Sarma keeps lying to cover up past lies.

Sarma Claims Evidence to Be Revealed by September

At a public event, Sarma again alleged that Gogoi visited Pakistan at the direct invitation of the country’s Ministry of Interior.

“Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan on an invitation of the ISI. For the first time, I am saying this. We have documents of the same. He did not go for tourism purposes. He went there definitely for taking training,” Sarma said.

He clarified that this invitation was not from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or any university, but directly from Pakistan’s Home Department. “All his paths are closed.

We have seen the evidence. Only we need time till September to get the papers. We have to submit a notice and then the embassy will provide us with the documents… Please do not ask about this again till that time,” he added.

CM Reiterates Allegation on X

Sarma later repeated his claim on social media platform X, writing, “I reiterate, with full authority and responsibility as the Chief Minister of Assam, that Shri Gaurab Gogoi, Member of Parliament from Assam, visited Pakistan at the invitation of the Ministry of Interior of the Government of Pakistan.

He spent several days there. We are enquiring further into the details surrounding this visit and related associations.”

Gogoi Questions September Deadline

Responding sharply, Gogoi said on X, “He should put out the facts in public domain and stop hiding behind an imaginary September deadline.”

“I doubt if even in September the Chief Minister can put out any concrete facts,” he said. Gogoi also recalled a past incident involving the Bharat Jodo Yatra, saying, “I remember how during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Assam, he created a fuss about a supposed ‘body double’ of Rahul Gandhi.”
