K Kavitha Announces Maha Dharna on June 4 Against KLIS Probe Notices to KCR

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha has declared a Maha Dharna on June 4 at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, Hyderabad.
This protest is in response to the notices issued to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao by the Justice PC Ghose Commission, which is investigating alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).
The announcement was made during a press conference held after the inauguration of the new Telangana Jagruthi office in Banjara Hills on Saturday.
Kavitha strongly condemned the commission’s notices, questioning their motivation and branding the investigation as politically driven.
Political Motive Alleged Behind Commission’s Notices
Addressing the media, Kavitha accused the Congress-led state government, headed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, of targeting K Chandrashekhar Rao to discredit the Kaleshwaram project.
She questioned, “Is this a Kaleshwaram Commission or a Congress Commission?” and emphasized the project’s importance by highlighting its contribution to irrigating 20 lakh acres annually. Kavitha also referenced the broader goal of extending irrigation support to one crore acres in Telangana.
She challenged the reasoning behind the notice to KCR, asking, “Was it for implementing Rythu Bandhu or Rythu Bima? Was it for ensuring the welfare of Telangana’s people?” She insisted that the notice was not only an attack on KCR but on the very spirit of Telangana.
Telangana Jagruthi’s 18-Year Legacy
Kavitha, who founded Telangana Jagruthi in 2006, spoke about the organization’s 18-year journey in advocating for Telangana’s cultural and social revival during the statehood movement.
She recalled the early resistance the group faced, especially warnings from detractors about potential suppression by leaders from the Seemandhra region.
Despite advice to remove the term “Telangana” from the organization’s name to avoid backlash, Telangana Jagruthi retained it, reflecting its commitment to serving the people with regional pride.
Kavitha credited the inspiration from K Chandrashekhar Rao and Professor Jaishankar in driving the movement forward.
Criticism of Congress Government’s Approach to Telangana Identity
Kavitha sharply criticized the current Congress government, accusing it of neglecting Telangana’s identity.
She pointed out that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy does not say “Jai Telangana” or pay tribute to the statehood martyrs, casting doubt on his legitimacy to lead Telangana.
She accused the government of allowing the diversion of 200 TMC of Godavari water to Andhra Pradesh through projects like Banakacharla and Polavaram.
Kavitha claimed that under Andhra Pradesh’s influence, the Chief Minister has remained silent about Telangana’s rightful share of water.
“Telangana has a legitimate right to 200 TMC of Godavari water,” she stressed. “The Chief Minister must call for an Apex Council meeting and raise the issues of injustice meted out to the State. He should make a statement on this on June 2,” she demanded, referring to Telangana Formation Day.
Allegations of Corruption in GHMC Tenders
Apart from the protest, Kavitha has also demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy cancel tenders related to vehicle purchases for the Monsoon Emergency Teams and Instant Repair Teams under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
She alleged that officials in the GHMC Engineering department are attempting to favor specific dealers by tailoring regulations to benefit a foreign company that has only two showrooms in Hyderabad.
The managers of these showrooms are reportedly reluctant to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Telangana contractors, forcing these contractors to obtain MoUs from Karnataka showrooms.
Kavitha added that authorities are pressuring contractors to submit physical copies within a very short timeframe.
She further accused the authorities of changing rules to benefit one organization and two contracting agencies, causing an additional financial burden of ₹5.85 crore per year on the civic body.
Kavitha called for immediate action under the Chief Minister’s supervision of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department to address these alleged irregularities.
Revanth Reddy’s Commitment to Telangana Questioned
Kavitha questioned the Chief Minister’s dedication to Telangana’s identity, highlighting his failure to chant “Jai Telangana” or honor the martyrs who fought for the state’s formation.
She described his leadership as disconnected from the aspirations of Telangana’s people and questioned his legitimacy to govern the state.
K Kavitha’s announcement of the Maha Dharna and her pointed criticism of the state government underscore ongoing tensions in Telangana politics.
The protest aims to challenge what she calls politically motivated actions against former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and defend the achievements and rights of Telangana, especially in water resource management and regional identity.
