Ravindra Chavan to Take Over as Maharashtra BJP Chief, Official Announcement Today

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially appointed Shri Ravindra Dattatray Chavan as the new Maharashtra BJP President.

A four-time MLA from Dombivli, Chavan has been an active party worker for over 23 years, representing the BJP’s dedication to grassroots and ideology-driven leadership.

Appointment Reflects BJP’s Long-Term Vision

Chavan’s appointment comes at a crucial time as Maharashtra’s political landscape continues to evolve.

His elevation represents the party’s commitment to nurturing leaders with ideological clarity and experience at the ground level, aligned with its long-term vision for the state.

Chavan’s Political Journey

Hailing from urban Dombivli, Chavan began his political journey with the BJP Yuva Morcha. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, serving as a corporator, MLA, minister, and now as the state BJP president.

His rise reflects his understanding of both the people’s needs and the party’s organizational discipline.

Chavan is known for his strong connection with the public and party workers alike.

He is regarded as “Ravindra Chavan,” the cultural advocate who promotes local institutions like Dombivlikar Ek Sanskrutik Parivar, and “Ravi Chavan,” the political strategist instrumental in BJP’s success in elections in Kalyan-Dombivli, Palghar, and Sindhudurg.

Strong Roots and Administrative Experience

With roots in Konkan and connections in both Mumbai and Dombivli, Chavan’s appointment strengthens the BJP’s outreach across the state.

He has served as a minister under both Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde, delivering significant infrastructure projects worth ₹92,000 crore, including work on roads, bridges, government buildings, and the Mumbai-Goa Highway.

His proven ability to handle complex political situations has further reinforced his reputation as a capable leader.

Key Responsibilities Ahead of Elections

Chavan takes charge at a politically significant time, with Gram Panchayat, Zilla Parishad, and Municipal Corporation elections scheduled in the coming months.

His primary task will be to showcase the achievements of the BJP government, highlight development efforts under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and strengthen the party’s presence across both urban and rural Maharashtra.

He is also expected to lead efforts to boost the party’s digital narrative, counter misinformation, and motivate grassroots workers to expand the party’s reach.

Chavan is affectionately called “Aapla Ravi” and “Ravidada” by party members and leaders, reflecting the trust and connection he shares with both senior leadership and the karyakartas.

Symbol of BJP’s Ideological Commitment

Chavan’s rise within the party exemplifies the BJP’s core belief in promoting homegrown leadership.

The party continues to demonstrate that discipline, dedication, and commitment to ideology can propel ordinary workers to the highest organizational roles, in contrast to dynastic politics.

For Chavan, this is more than a promotion—it is a responsibility to lead the BJP through Maharashtra’s dynamic political phase with unity and vision.

Formal Takeover Amid Enthusiasm

On Tuesday, Ravindra Chavan formally took charge as the new Maharashtra BJP President at the party’s state council meeting held at Worli Dome in Mumbai.

The event was marked by slogans, music, and fireworks, highlighting the enthusiasm among party workers ahead of crucial local body elections.

In his first address as state president, Chavan expressed gratitude to the BJP leadership for trusting him with this role.

“It is only possible in the BJP that a common worker like me from an ordinary family is given such a huge responsibility. The BJP’s nationalist ideology and the pro-people decisions of the Modi government must reach every corner of Maharashtra and every common citizen. With the support of all workers, I will take this mission forward,” Chavan said.

Preparing for 2029 Elections

Chavan urged party workers to prepare for the 2029 general elections from now itself, following the principles laid down by Ramabhau Mhalgi:

“Work tirelessly, keep a cool mind, and speak sweetly.” He stressed the need to counter misinformation about the Narendra Modi government and the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra.

Praise for Outgoing President and Future Plans

Outgoing state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who handed over the party flag to Chavan, reflected on his tenure.

He said that while he initially doubted his ability to handle the role, the support from workers and leaders like Devendra Fadnavis enabled him to strengthen the organization.

“We achieved a record of enrolling 1.5 crore members. While we fell short in the Lok Sabha polls, under Devendra Fadnavis’s leadership, we secured the highest number of assembly seats. Now, under Ravindra Chavan, we must aim for a 51% vote share and maximum victories in local bodies,” Bawankule stated.

Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar commended Bawankule’s efforts in expanding the party’s reach and expressed confidence that Chavan would lead the party to even greater success.

Senior Leaders Attend Grand Event

The event witnessed the presence of top BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who announced Chavan’s appointment, National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, MP Udayanraje Bhosale, Union Ministers Murlidhar Mohol and Raksha Khadse, Pankaja Munde, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Ashok Chavan, Narayan Rane, and other senior ministers.

Chavan’s Commitment to the Party

In his closing remarks, Chavan declared, “The BJP is my identity. The party has shaped me, and I am ready to do anything for the party that made me who I am.”
