TMC MP Mahua Moitra Marries Former BJD MP Pinaki Misra in Intimate Berlin Ceremony

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra recently tied the knot with former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Pinaki Mishra in a private wedding ceremony held in Berlin, Germany.

The event was intimate, with only close friends and family in attendance. Mahua took to social media to share a photograph of herself and Pinaki cutting their wedding cake, marking the occasion with a heartfelt message of gratitude for the love and blessings they received.

Stunning Bridal Look in Banarasi Elegance

For her special day, Mahua Moitra chose to move away from the conventional bridal reds. Instead, she wore a soft-pink Banarasi silk saree by Indian fashion label Raw Mango.

The brand later shared a series of pictures of the bride in her custom ‘Parigul’ saree. Woven in the traditional Kadwa style, the pale pink Banarasi brocade saree featured rani pink meenakari floral designs created with silk and real zari.

Each motif was individually woven using an extra weft technique, making the reverse side smooth and free of floating threads.

Raw Mango wrote, “Seen here in the custom Parigul sari, parliamentarian Mahua Moitra during her private wedding celebrations in Berlin, Germany.

The Varanasi silk brocade sari, woven with real zari and pale pink silk, draws from archival textiles and features a play of rani pink meenakari in the floral jaal.

It is woven using the elaborate Kadwa technique in a ‘jangla’ pattern, where each motif is woven separately utilising an extra weft insertion, and the reverse of the textile reveals the absence of thread floats. She pairs it with the pale pink Gulshera blouse in silk satin.”

The outfit was paired with a silk satin ‘Gulshera’ blouse in a matching shade. Mahua completed her look with traditional gold jewellery, including a maang tikka, jhumkas, a choker, and a layered necklace.

Her hair was adorned with a floral gajra, adding a fragrant touch to the overall ensemble.

Pinaki Mishra’s Subtle Groom Style

Pinaki Mishra opted for a handwoven silk bundi in a pale pink shade, harmonizing with Mahua’s attire. The quilted bundi, tailored to suit the occasion, added a refined and personal flair to his look.

The couple’s coordinated outfits highlighted their shared sense of elegance and understated charm.

Confirmation and Social Media Buzz

Amid speculation about their wedding, Mahua Moitra confirmed the news through a social media post.

Alongside the picture of the couple cutting a cake, she wrote, “Thank you everyone for the love and good wishes!! So grateful.” The image quickly gained traction, drawing in warm messages from colleagues and supporters.

TMC MP Saayoni Ghosh congratulated the newlyweds on X, writing, “Congratulations Mm & Pm… Mahua Moitra, Pinaki Misra, wishing you a lifetime of love and laughter!” Several MPs from the TMC and BJD, however, stated they were unaware of the wedding details.

Political and Personal Backgrounds

Mahua Moitra, 50, is currently serving her second consecutive term as the Member of Parliament from Krishnanagar, West Bengal.

Formerly an investment banker, she began her political journey with the Indian Youth Congress before joining the Trinamool Congress in 2010. Mahua was previously married to Danish financier Lars Brorson.

In 2023, she was expelled from the Lok Sabha over allegations of accepting “cash” and “gifts” from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for asking questions in Parliament.

The complaint originated from her friend and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai and was taken up by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. Mahua denied the allegations, and despite the controversy, she was re-elected in 2024.

Pinaki Mishra, 65, is a senior advocate at the Supreme Court and a veteran politician. He served as the MP from Puri, Odisha, across four terms representing the BJD. Like Mahua, he had been married previously.

Reactions from Political Circles

The marriage of two seasoned politicians attracted attention and warm wishes from across party lines.

West Bengal BJP president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said, “I know both of them as fellow MPs. Congratulations to both of them.” Senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh also extended his congratulations to Mahua Moitra on the occasion.

The wedding, while private, has become a talking point across political and social circles, celebrating the union of two prominent public figures in a ceremony that was both elegant and personal.
