Vinicius Jr. Demands Mbappe-Level Salary for Real Madrid Renewal Amid Status Uncertainty
The growing rift between Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid has intensified as the Brazilian forward seeks a substantial salary increase, with Saudi Arabian interest looming large as the 2025-26 season nears.
Contract Demands Create Friction
Vinicius Jr., currently under contract with Los Blancos until 2027, is reportedly demanding the same salary as Kylian Mbappe to consider a contract extension.
The 25-year-old forward, a key figure in Madrid’s recent campaigns, believes he deserves parity with Mbappe, whose arrival has shifted the club’s wage dynamics.
As per Sport, Vinicius currently earns around €20 million annually, whereas Mbappe reportedly receives €30 million.
Vinicius is said to be seeking at least €25 million, along with additional bonuses and privileges. His representatives have described this as “a matter of fairness.”
Despite the player’s insistence, Real Madrid has shown no urgency in addressing the issue.
Sources suggest that club president Florentino Perez might intervene to resolve the deadlock, but for now, the club remains cautious. The long-term plan remains to extend Vinicius’s contract until 2030 under new manager Xabi Alonso’s project.
Saudi Arabia Tables Record Offer
While talks with Madrid stall, Saudi Arabian clubs are reportedly preparing an unprecedented €350 million bid to lure Vinicius. This would mark one of the most expensive transfer offers in football history.
Since 2023, Saudi officials have been pursuing Vinicius and have now reportedly offered him a five-season deal worth €1 billion. This staggering figure underscores how aggressively the Saudi Pro League is working to attract elite talent.
Dip in Form Fuels Madrid’s Hesitation
Adding to the complications is Vinicius’s recent performance. His form in the 2024 Club World Cup, where he only managed one goal and one assist across six matches, drew heavy criticism from fans.
His struggle to form effective on-field chemistry with Kylian Mbappe has further raised concerns among the coaching staff.
Overall, Vinicius registered 22 goals in 58 appearances across competitions during the 2024-25 season, a noticeable dip compared to previous years.
This inconsistency is a significant reason why Real Madrid is reluctant to meet his wage demands.
Haaland on Madrid’s Radar
As uncertainty looms over Vinicius’s future, Real Madrid has already identified Erling Haaland as a potential replacement. Should the Brazilian decide to move, particularly to Saudi Arabia, Madrid is prepared to pursue the Premier League star.
Vinicius still has two years remaining on his current contract and has expressed a willingness to extend his stay until 2030. However, he insists on a significant wage hike to make that happen.
Real Madrid’s Firm Stance
Reports from Mundo Deportivo state that Vinicius currently earns €15 million net per season, while Mbappe’s earnings, including an €8 million annual signing bonus, amount to around €23 million per year.
Meeting Vinicius’s demand would require nearly a 50 percent raise, which Madrid has so far refused to offer.
The club has made it clear they will not match Mbappe’s salary for Vinicius. With talks stalled for months, there is growing speculation that the Brazilian might not stay beyond 2027 if the wage gap remains unresolved.
Vinicius Jr.’s future at Real Madrid is increasingly uncertain as he demands financial parity with Mbappe amid falling form and rising external interest.
While the club values his talent and wishes to keep him long-term, it remains to be seen whether they will bend to his financial expectations or look for alternatives.
