Virat Kohli was struck on the helmet during the IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday. Despite the impact, Kohli recovered quickly and resumed play.

A video capturing the reaction of his wife, actor Anushka Sharma, went viral. She was seen visibly alarmed in the stands as the ball hit Kohli’s helmet.

Her hands covered her face in concern. A user shared her photo on social media with the caption, “Anushka Sharma Terrified When Ball Hit on Virat Kohli Helmet.”

Anushka Sharma is often present at Kohli’s matches to cheer for him. The couple, married in 2017, have two children – daughter Vamika and son Akaay.

The pair recently visited spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj in Vrindavan following Kohli’s retirement from Test cricket.

In an emotional Instagram post, Kohli wrote, “It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life.”

I’ll always look back at my Test career with a smile.”

Aggressive Send-Off to Abhishek Sharma

In the high-intensity match at Ekana International Stadium, Kohli’s reaction to Abhishek Sharma’s dismissal drew attention. After the SRH batsman was caught at deep backward square leg, Kohli ran towards the pitch and shouted something at him.

Abhishek had been aggressive, scoring 34 runs off 16 balls, including 10 off two deliveries from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. However, he remained silent as Kohli gave him an animated send-off, seemingly respecting the veteran Indian player.

Abhishek had earlier shown displeasure when LSG’s Digvesh Rathi celebrated his dismissal in a previous game.

Kohli was in attacking form during the match in Lucknow but was dismissed against the run of play, leaving Anushka stunned.

She appeared to say something as he walked back after scoring 43 runs from 25 balls, which included 7 fours and 1 six. Kohli had partnered with Phil Salt to add 80 runs in seven overs while chasing a target of 232.

His dismissal also impacted his chances in the Orange Cap race. At the time, the top six run-getters in IPL 2025 were Sai Sudharsan (638), Shubman Gill (636), Suryakumar Yadav (583), Mitchell Marsh (560), Yashasvi Jaiswal (559), and Virat Kohli (548), with Kohli having registered seven fifties in the season.

Hyderabad’s Dominant Victory

Pat Cummins and Nitish Reddy starred in SRH’s win, defeating RCB by 42 runs. Ishan Kishan top-scored with 94 runs off 48 balls, hitting seven fours and five sixes. He was named Player of the Match for his brilliant innings.

RCB was bowled out for 189 in pursuit of SRH’s 232, falling short by 42 runs. With this result, RCB remained third on the IPL 2025 points table with 17 points – eight wins, four losses, and one no-result.

SRH, meanwhile, stood eighth with five wins and seven defeats in 13 games, collecting 10 points.

Playoffs Ahead and Team Updates

Despite the loss, RCB has already qualified for the playoffs. They are aiming for a top-two finish but must win their remaining matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants.
