Step-Son of BJP Leader Dilip Ghosh Found Dead in Kolkata Apartment

Step-Son of BJP Leader Dilip Ghosh Found Dead in Kolkata Apartment

Srinjay Majumdar, the 26-year-old stepson of BJP leader and former MP Dilip Ghosh, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at an apartment in Kolkata’s New Town area, police confirmed on Tuesday.

Srinjay, the son of Rinku Majumdar from her previous marriage, was found unresponsive and was taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him “brought dead.”

An autopsy later ruled out foul play and confirmed the cause of death as acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, a severe form of the condition.

Marriage and Sudden Tragedy

Dilip Ghosh, 60, had married Rinku Majumdar—an active leader in the BJP’s women’s wing—less than a month ago, on April 18. It was Ghosh’s first marriage and Majumdar’s second.

After the wedding, Majumdar moved into Ghosh’s residence, while Srinjay continued living at their New Town apartment. Srinjay worked at an IT firm and lived alone following his mother’s relocation.

Last Night Before Death

According to police, two of Srinjay’s colleagues, including his girlfriend—whom he was planning to marry—visited him on Monday night.

Later, his girlfriend called Rinku Majumdar and informed her that Srinjay was feeling unwell. She immediately rushed to the New Town flat and took him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

Preliminary Police Investigation

The police have initiated an investigation but have not received any formal complaint from Rinku Majumdar or other family members.

“The cause of the death is not known. That will be ascertained only after the post-mortem examination. We are investigating the matter,” said a police officer.

The autopsy was conducted at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The report ruled out any foul play and indicated that Srinjay had died of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis.

Mother Speaks on Son’s Health and Emotional State

Speaking to the media, Rinku Majumdar revealed that her son had been battling a neurological disorder for the past year and a half and was on medication.

She added that after her marriage, Srinjay seemed stressed and had not been eating properly or taking his medication.

“I have come to know he was not eating properly and was missing his medicine doses. He never told me, but being a mother, I could feel he was upset,” Rinku said.

She also mentioned that Srinjay visited her on Mother’s Day and gave her gifts. “He never told me that he was upset after the marriage. His friends asked me to take him with me. He would tell them they go home and find their parents, but he doesn’t,” she added.

She said she had planned to ask Ghosh to let Srinjay move in with them. “I had decided to tell him (Ghosh) that either my son would move in with us or I would go and stay with him,” she said.

Dilip Ghosh Expresses Grief

Dilip Ghosh, visibly shaken by the incident, shared his grief with the media. “It’s my bad luck. I am so unfortunate. I never experienced the joy of having a son, but I am mourning the loss of one. Srinjay was close to me,” said the senior BJP leader.

Ghosh, a former Bengal BJP president, had been instrumental in increasing the BJP’s influence in West Bengal. Under his leadership, the party won 18 out of 42 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He currently serves as the BJP’s national vice-president.

Ongoing Investigation

The police are continuing their investigation to verify the circumstances leading to Srinjay’s death. As part of the inquiry, they are speaking with his colleagues and girlfriend, who were present at the apartment the previous night.

A police official also confirmed that Srinjay spoke to his mother and a relative the previous night and was supposed to travel to Durgapur the following morning.

For now, the case remains open, and officials are awaiting any further information from the family or those present during his final hours.
